Forever Bury FC - The Fans Team
Forever Bury FC has come along way since we first started way back in August 2004. Bury were due to play Kidderminster away and a supporter from Kidderminster fans team came onto the message board, and asked if we would be interested in a friendly fans match prior to the game. A group of Bury supporters who never met until the day of the game, agreed and travelled down to Kidderminster and played the game, which end in a embarrassing result but all the players enjoyed themselves and decided to try play a few more games.
A match was quickly offered to FBFC by Hull, but due to most of the players having work commitments the game couldn't go ahead. It was four months before their next match, which they won 2-0.
The team started playing more games and the team started to gel and began to get a string of results together. Bury FC kindly donated a kit from a few years back so now FBFC looked like a proper team. Game after game, FBFC went from strength to strength and when playing a friendly against local rivals Radcliffe Borough, found out about a national league for fans teams called the IFA League. The league is made up of a number of fans teams spread out all across England, Wales and Scotland.
Due to the success of FBFC more supporters wanted to play, so are now able to field two sides. The A team play league and cup games home and away, whilst the B team play local sides. This year FBFC look likely to finish third in the league behind Preston, who went unbeaten in the league, and QPR.
Preston's season long unbeaten record went though when they lost to FBFC in the semi final of the IFA Cup. FBFC will either play Sheffield United or Hibs in the final on July 13th, the opening ceremony of Worldnet. Worldnet is a 72 team tournament which is held in Leeds every year where FBFC have entered two teams and is amongst the favourites to win the tournament.
We have also played in two charity matches at Gigg Lane since we started. The first match was against the cast and crew of Emmerdale, which raised £500 for Forever Buy and this year we played the stars of Hollyoaks in which 914 turned up and raised over £2,000 for Forever Bury and two Children's Hospitals.
As you can see we have come along way since we first started way back in 2004 and we travel over the country to play football but more importantly promote Bury FC.
