Alan Knill made three changes to the Shakers starting eleven.In came Steven Schumacher and Damien Mozika - replacing Peter Sweeney and James Wallace, who both reverted to the bench.Gavin Gunning made his debut for Bury at centre half with Tom Lees dropping to right back following an injury to Phil Picken during the week.

The home side had the brighter opening exchanges with Kevin Betsy and Chris Westwood combining early, but good defensive work from the Shakers back four thwarted the Wycombe runners.Pressure from the Shakers forced a mistake from Westwood, allowing Mike Jones to feed the ball into the box, but the home defence forced the ball out for a Bury corner. Wycombe dealt with the corner though and quickly got the ball up the field through Lewis who looked to supply the ball to Bevan, but a good challenge from Gunning saw the ball cleared.

From the Bury goal kick, the Shakers got the ball forward to Ajose, but his ball into the box found Lowe offside.Bury had a good chance soon after again with Ajose going close as he broke into the box.

Andy Haworth started producing one or two good runs and one run brought a Bury corner on 12 minutes.Mike Jones' delivery saw the home defence clear to Schumacher, he fed it wide to Jones again but again the home defence stood strong and cleared.More Bury pressure on 14 minutes saw Ajose take the ball down on the penalty spot, but a challenge from Ainsworth saw the ball cleared.

Wycombe had a good chance on 15 minutes with Ainsworth floating the ball into the box for Rendell, but his header drifted just past the upright.Efe Sodje was having a busy afternoon with Betsy trying every trick he had against him, but up to 20 minutes, Sodje was winning the battle.

A Bury free kick on 20 minutes on the right hand side of the Wycombe box.Gavin Gunning took the kick but his kick cannoned off the wall to Haworth and the home side quickly got the ball up the field with more work for Sodje, who headed out of play to the fury of the home crowd, who seemed to be appealing for a foul.

Efe Sodje seemed to be upsetting the locals as every ball played towards him produced a chorus of boos from the home side - what chances of Sodje opening the account for the afternoon!!

Bury won another free kick on 22 minutes after Rendell used a hand on the face of Ryan Lowe, which again seemed to upset the locals.The free kick into the box was again well dealt with by the home side but when the ball fell back to Ryan Lowe, he fluffed his lines and screwed the effort wide.

A Flowing passing move from Bury on 27 minutes saw skipper Steve Schumacher looking for a long range effort, but good covering work form the home side saw him feed the ball to Lowe who snapped at his shot and lost control of the ball.

Another good move from Bury saw Ajose power the ball beyond the Wycombe full back, his cross into the box found Schumacher but his header drifted inches wide past the box.Moments later Schumacher played a stunning ball through the Wycombe defence to Lowe, but unfortunately the offside flag stopped the run, though he did force the keeper to make the save.

A Wycombe corner on 31 minutes saw the Bury defence quickly clear with the Bury counter attack on.Jones fed the ball to Ajose who charged at goal but he eventually scuffed his shot and smacked the ball wide of the target.

One touch football from the Shakers on 36 minutes saw Ajose again clear and through on goal, but although he got his shot on target, the Chairboys keeper just managed to get a touch on the ball and his defence smashed it away to safety.

Nicky Ajose was hauled down on 40 minutes by Winfield, the resulting free kick was met by the head of Gunning, but Betsy easily cleared the ball down the field.Wycombe seemed to be adopting the 'anywhere will do' tactic when clearing Bury balls.Joe Skarz collected an injury by flying over the advertising hoardings and into the crowd.Referee Cootes stopped the game for a moment, but quickly re-started as Skarz came back into play.

Just before the break, Owain Fon Williams was called into action for the first time in the game, a shot from Kevin Betsy was tipped around the post by the Bury keeper, though the Bury defence easily dealt with the Wycombe delivery.

A foul on Ryan Lowe deep into injury time, following a push in the back, brought a free kick.The delivery though flew straight to the Wycombe keeper, his quick clearance found Bevan but a stunning tackle from Mozika stopped their move dead.

Neither side made any changes at the break but it was again Bury that created the first half chance, though Ryan Lowe's effort went straight to the keeper.Within seconds of the keeper clearing, he was saving again, this time from a long range Andy Haworth effort, though in true striker tradition, Ryan Lowe was on hand looking for a mistake from the keeper.

Efe Sodje received a yellow card soon after following a foul on Rendell, the resulting free kick saw Fon Williams easily collect though.Wycombe forced Fon Williams into another good save ten minutes into the second half; Bevan testing him from distance saw the Bury keeper change direction to parry the shot before Skarz cleared.

More good work from Andy Haworth on the right hand side saw him float the ball into the box, but just too high for Nicky Ajose.Moments later Ryan Lowe and Schumacher combined well to release Schumacher into the box, but he just couldn't stretch enough to divert the ball at goal.

Fon Williams was called into action again, this time producing another good save from the veteran Gareth Ainsworth.Wycombe came forward again soon after, Rendell again causing problems down the left hand side, but another stunning challenge from Gunning killed the move dead, though the Shakers did win a free kick following a foul on Sodje.

A Wycombe throw into the Bury box saw another Bury counter attack.Mozika took the ball down and fed it quickly wide to Jones, he got it forward to Schumacher, but the Shakers skipper was hacked down for a Bury free kick.Schumacher's resulting free kick though was well dealt with by the Wycombe defence.

Scott Rendell put the home side in front with twenty minutes of the game left.A rare mistake from Gavin Gunning saw Wycombe break quickly, with only Tom Lees at the back, he was cut out with a quick pass the Rendell slammed the ball home for his 9th of the season.

Bury should have pulled one back minutes later when Nicky Ajose stole into the box, but couldn't reach Ryan Lowe with the pass, the ball was pushed out for a corner, but Bull rose above everyone and punched clear.Steven Schumacher went into the referee's notebook after breaking down a Wycombe move with a late challenge on Betsy.

A challenge on Damien Mozika from substitute Ben Strevens gave Bury a free kick and a yellow card for the Wycombe player.With time running out, the Shakers got the ball across the pitch only for Wycombe to clear the ball out of play.

Mozika was the next into the book when a challenge on Strevens, the reversal of three minutes earlier.AS Mozika was being booked, Peter Sweeney came on to replace Mike Jones.

A Bury free kick on 85 minutes saw Peter Sweeney deliver the ball into the box, but again Wycombe broke quickly with Betsy.He fed the ball to Bloomfield who took it past Haworth, when the referee blew for a foul by Haworth.

With Bury attempting to get the ball into the Wycombe box, Wycombe suddenly broke with Kevin Betsy.A challenge from Gavin Gunning though saw the move stopped and Bury went forward again with Lees.A cross into the area saw a foul by John-Lewis, allowing Wycombe to take their time with the resulting free kick.Another free kick saw Wycombe again break quickly, but again, the Bury defence held firm with Sodje chasing the ball into the corner before clearing.

Finally the whistle came and Bury's chance of creating history failed with only a second away defeat of the season. The defeat was expensive though with Steven Schumacher collectiong his fifth yellow of the season (tbc)
