by Hannah Ingram at Gigg Lane

Bury's third consecutive game of scoring three goals had set them up well to face Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe on home turf. Three wins placed Alan Knill's men into second in the table, riding high with 57 points and an impressive goal difference of 25, beaten only by table-toppers Chesterfield","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Chesterfield.

Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe game to Gigg Lane on the back of two consecutive wins themselves; an impressive away win at Chesterfield","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Chesterfield and a home win against Southend at the weekend, which took them to 17th in the league.

They brought former Shakers Danny Carlton and Andy Parrish with them, but Ryan Lowe would be hoping the headlines would be about him extending his new club record and equal the post-war English record of 10 goals in 10 league games.

Damien Mozika began his two-match suspension after collecting his tenth yellow card, so Peter Sweeney stepped into the starting XI in his place.

It only took him five minutes, but Kyle Bennett was back to causing defenders problems with a snappy run into the right of the box, crossing for Andy Bishop. The ball then fell to Ryan Lowe, but his effort was well over the bar from a tight angle.

Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe's first notable chance arrived on 11 minutes, courtesy of a free kick. Kevan Hurst curled the ball into the box towards the far post, but Kieran Charnock's header was collected by Cameron Belford above his head.

A precision cross from Lowe on the right met the feet of Bennett on 12 minutes but his effort was blasted over the bar.

A clever pass from Bennett on 18 minutes sliced through the Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe defence after he had so coolly beaten his marker; it reached the feet of Bishop but he was challenged by Andy Parrish and sent the ball out for a goal kick.

A cross from Phil Picken on the right became a cross-come-shot on 27 minutes as it floated towards the top of the goal, forcing Joe Anyon to wave the ball over the bar.

Bury's dominance in the early stages cooled off towards the middle of the half as the home side gave Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe the space to pass while Bury looked for their first shot on target. They had the moves to get the ball forward but needed that finishing edge.

The fourth official indicated one minute of added time to the half where Bury had the lion's share of possession but hadn't made it count. Bury's last chance of the game fell to Lowe whose blasted shot was deflected into the path of Bennett who skied the ball into the stand.

Time was soon called and Bury would have fifteen minutes of contemplation - they'd done the hard work but needed to put the ball in the net and make that early dominance count on the score sheet.

Half Time - Bury 0 Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe 0

Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe came out looking brighter than the first half, giving the Bury backline some work to do.

Yellow card for Bury on 56 minutes - Phil Picken

Jimmy Spencer had the Bury defence worried on 62 minutes with a fast run into the box, but his cross curled dangerously in front of goal, eventually being put out of a play for a corner. Taken from the left into a packed penalty area, Belford was forced to make a save on the line to stop the visitors from taking the lead.

Double substitution for Bury on 65 minutes - Andy Haworth on for Kyle Bennett, Michael Jones on for David Worrall

Substitution for Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe on 69 minutes - Andy Holdsworth on for Garry Hunter

Yellow card for Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe on 70 minutes - Danny Carlton

Andy Haworth paced forward on 71 minutes to collect the loose ball on the left of the box but his cross skimmed in front of goal with nobody there to finish it.

Yellow card for Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe on 74 minutes - Andy Holdsworth

Substitution for Bury on 79 minutes - Lenell John-Lewis on for Andy Bishop

A corner from Steven Schumacher on 81 minutes reached the far post but Tom Lees' shot took a wicked deflection and went just over the bar.

Carlton tried his luck from distance on 83 minutes after Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe pressed with a counter attack; seeing Belford off his line, he tried to lob the ball over his head, but it went over the bar too.

GOAL! Bury left it late but broke the deadlock on 85 minutes with a goal from substitute Lenell John-Lewis. He shot from the edge of the box and it looked like Anyon had stopped the ball just in front of his line, but the ball rolled out of his hands and over the line. A stroke of luck which the Shakers needed after a frustrating second half.

Bury 1 Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe 0

Double substitution for Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe on 89 minutes - Phil Jevons on for Danny Carlton, Tony Capaldi on for Laurence Wilson

Four minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official as Bury looked to hold their lead. It looked like Ryan Lowe's record wouldn't extend past scoring in nine consecutive games, but he should be pleased for matching and beating the club record of seven.

Time was eventually called on a fourth consecutive win for the Shakers. It so often happens that luck comes when you're nearer the top of the table than at the bottom, and Bury have Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe keeper Joe Anyon to thank for their 1-0 win. He looked to have comfortably stopped John-Lewis' effort but it somehow rolled away from him and over the line.

Bury have a tough game ahead of them at the weekend, travelling to promotion rivals Rotherham. They fell foul of a late Bradford winner tonight, so will probably be straight out of the blocks on Saturday - something which the Bury backline need to be ready for.

Bury kept their second place in the table, keeping Wycombe, who also won, in third with their superior goal difference. Morecambe","height=600, width=800,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,status=1,toolbar=1,location=1");return false;">Morecambe were unlucky to fall to 19th after a much better second half performance, but lady luck was definitely looking over the home side.
