Bury vs Carlisle United" target="_blank">Carlisle United
by Hannah Ingram at Gigg Lane
Bury's first home match in League One proved to be a rude awakening as the Shakers were beaten to the tune of 2-0 by a strong Carlisle side.
The home side found it tough to keep the ball and move it around, as the Cumbrians continued to frustrate the Shakers with sharper passing and quick attacking.
The visitors thought they'd taken the lead after 10 minutes, thanks to some nice footwork from Matty Robson who rolled the ball forward for Tom Taiwo as he made his way into the box. He kept his composure and shot to Cameron Belford's left, but the ball hit the post and Damien Mozika cleared the ball from the goal line.
The first half became a story of trying to keep the ball for both sides, with Carlisle seeming sharper on the attack. A deadly cross from Robson on the left after 22 minutes just needed a tap in but it went flying past all the yellow shirts waiting in front of goal.
Andy Bishop held the ball up well on 34 minutes and laid the ball off for Ryan Lowe just inside the box. Lowe turned and tried a looping shot towards the left post, but Adam Collin stretched out and saved.
A whipped cross from Michael Jones on the right after 40 minutes met the head of Lowe in front of goal, but his effort went over the bar.

Bury thought they'd drawn level on 70 minutes with a drilled effort from Michael Jones, but the linesman's flag denied the Scouser his first goal of the season due to an earlier foul.

Substitute for Carlisle on 71 minutes - Tom Taiwo replaced by Andy Welsh
Substitute for Carlisle on 79 minutes - Francois Zoko replaced by Liam Noble
Andy Welsh came close to doubling the visitors' lead with 7 minutes remaining, but his bullet header following a cross from the right flew past the post.
Belford made two reaction saves in quick succession on 88 minutes to keep the deficit at one goal by blocking both shots with his feet.
GOAL! Carlisle made it two in injury time with a well-worked move from Welsh which set up Noble as he ran into the box, finishing past Belford.

The visitors should have made it three in the dying moments, but a bullet header from Craig Curren rattled against Belford's crossbar.
It was a lesson in how to keep hold of the ball and carry it forward from the Cumbrian outfit, and Bury will have to make some improvements ahead of Sheffield Wednesday's visit on Tuesday night.
