Bury 2 Leicester City 4
by Hannah Ingram at Gigg Lane

Bury left the Carling Cup at the second round at the hands of a Leicester side who really came to life in the second half.

Sven Goran Eriksson made ten changes to the side who surrendered a 2-0 lead against Notts Forest at the weekend, but once they brought their rested players off the bench, Bury were overcome.

A stunning strike from Ryan Lowe had put Bury into the lead early in the second half, but it wasn't enough to hold onto against a lethal Leicester side.

An early effort from Lenell John-Lewis just inside the box after 3 minutes was saved by Chris Weale as he got down low.

Lloyd Dyer latched onto an inch-perfect cross field ball on 13 minutes, but as he ran into the box from the right, he blasted the ball well wide.

GOAL! Jeff Schlupp took the lead for the visitors on 20 minutes with a fine effort from just inside the box after turning away from Efe Sodje. His hat-trick in less than 20 minutes against Rotherham helped the visitors through the first round of the Carling Cup with a 4-1 victory.

A free kick from Peter Sweeney on 25 minutes curled just wide of the right post after Phil Picken was upended on his way towards the box.

Yuki Abe wasted a great chance to double Leicester's lead on 29 minutes after he and Oakley made the most of a mistake from the Bury defence. His shot from the left of the box skimmed past the far post and let Bury off the hook.

A great save from Cameron Belford stopped Schlupp claiming his second on 33 minutes with a close range effort after smooth build-up play from the visitors.

GOAL! Bury brought things level on 39 minutes with a well-placed effort from Michael Jones. A cross from David Worrall on the right reached the head of Damien Mozika but the ball came back to Worrall. Another cross was cleared as far as Jones who netted his second goal in as many games.

GOAL! Bury took the lead in style on 52 minutes with an absolute stunner of a goal from top-scorer Ryan Lowe. Worrall was brought down just outside the box and Lowe sent the resulting free kick flying past Weale into the top right-hand corner.

Five minutes of added time were soon over in a match which Bury will feel disappointed to lose, especially after that wonder goal from Ryan Lowe.
