Coventry City take all three points

Play-off chasing Coventry City found the net twice to condemn Bury to their second consecutive home fixture.

It was a nightmare start for the Shakers, as Leon Clarke shrugged off Ashley Eastham before coolly slotting home past Trevor Carson after just 3 minutes. The damage was doubled by Carl Baker on 73 minutes, after he finished from the edge of the box.

Bury’s best chances fell to Andy Bishop and Nicky Ajose – on 64 and 83 minutes – but Bishop’s header skimmed the bar and Ajose’s effort was cleared off the line.

GOAL! Leon Clarke opened the scoring for the visitors after just 3 minutes – after muscling past Ashley Eastham on the left, he waltzed into the box before slotting the ball underneath Trevor Carson.

Richard Wood tried a shot from the same position as Clarke’s goal on 7 minutes, but the near post came to Bury’s rescue. James Bailey scooped up the rebound, forcing a clearance from Joe Skarz on the line.

Bury’s first corner arrived on 19 minutes, but Andy Bishop couldn’t connect at the near post to put the ball past Joe Murphy.

Some neat work from David Worrall on the right on 43 minutes saw Bishop bring the ball down to shoot from near the penalty spot, but his turn and shot was deflected past the post.

Early in the second half, the visitors had two good chances to extend their lead in as many minutes. Stephen Elliot was denied by Carson at the near post on 53 minutes, before Clarke latched onto a backwards header from Stephane Zubar, forcing another reaction save from Carson.

Bishop latched onto a cross from the left on 64 minutes, but as he jumped to make contact, he could only watch as the ball skimmed over the bar.

GOAL! Coventry claimed their second of the afternoon on 73 minutes with a confident individual effort from Carl Baker on the edge of the box.
