Blue & White Fortnight

Supporters of a football club which has one of the poorest attendance records in the Nationwide League are making plans to change that situation in the coming campaign.

The Bury FC Supporters' Trust intend to "paint the town" blue and white ( the club colours) in the run up to the start of the next football season starting 24th July until 7th August.

"We are asking local businesses, offices, shops, pubs and individuals to deck out their premises and vehicles in blue and white favours to show their support for their local football team" said Dave Giffard, promoter of the "Blue & White Fortnight" project.

"Financial constraints in the last two years has meant the club has had to concentrate mainly on survival whilst the poor attendances during this period have made for very slow progress. Things are not all doom and gloom, the youth set up has been very productive with a steady stream of talented young players coming through into the first team squad."

The "Blue & White Fortnight" will be the launch of a massive publicity drive aimed at boosting the club's image in the town.

Some major local busineses have already promised to get involved with the "Blue & White Fortnight" including the giant Asda supermarket in the town centre and the East Lancs Railway. Millgate, the town's under-cover chopping mall have also shown interest in the project.

" Even individuals can contribute by wearing their club shirts when out and about or flying the club flag from their cars." said Dave.

Bury's 150 public houses are being urged to get involved and it would be an ideal time for them to sell the infamous "Forever Bury Beer", hold fund raising events or see if they can fill one of Robbie the Bobby's moneyboxes.

"We are asking everybody to do their bit and hopefully come on down to Gigg Lane during the fortnight, have a tour of the facilities and see how they can join us in building a better and brighter future for the famous Shakers." said Dave.
