 Goal A Day
February 2001 is the date for today's goal of the day
Tong Rigby - Feb 96
Watch 28.08.2003 The Red Imps arrive at Gigg Lane and are totally destroyed as the Shakers run out 7-1 winners, one of those goals is here as a genuine classic goal. A stunning strike from Tony Rigby increases the Shakers lead and heaps more despair on the visitors
Jamie Hoyland - Apr 90
Watch 20.08.2003 The 'Classic' Jamie Hoyland scissor kick against Bolton Wanderers at Gigg Lane. A deep cross from Andy Hill found David 'Didsy' Lee on the opposite side of the Bolton box, he chipped it back into the affray where Jamie Hoyland rose to volley a truly classic goal against the olde enemy. Andy Hill scored the other goal to give the Shakers a 2-0 win.
Ian Lawson - Aug 99
Watch 18.08.2003 August 1999 and Brentford arrive at Gigg Lane for a second division clash with the Shakers. With just 64 second's of the game gone, a Bury throw is knocked back to the Shakers defence by a Brentford player. Centre Half Sam Collins spots Adrian Littlejohn and plays a peach of a ball down the flank for him to chase. He gets the ball and whips in an early cross where Ian 'Lethal' Lawson is on hand to give the Shakers an early lead. The game finished 2-2 with Chris Swailes grabbing the equaliser in the last minute
Adrian Littlejohn - Oct 99
Watch 12.08.2003 Bury 2 Bournemouth 2 - With 15 minutes of the game remaining, the Shakers were on the verge of losing this second division game to the Cherries. On 75 minutes a Nicky Daws long throw was knocked out for a Bury corner, Paul Reid's initial delivery was cleared but the ball fell to Ady Littlejohn in the box, the rest as they say - is history
Darren Bullock - April 99
Watch 06.08.2003 13 April 1999 - Sunderland arrive at Gigg Lane needing a win to seal the first division championship and promotion to the Premier league. Kevin Phillips gave Peter Reid's Black Cats an early lead but the shakers were not in a position to lie back and take it. Bury were deep in relegation problems, and in the 24th minute of the game, Darren Bullock took the game to the North East Club with a truly classic goal, Sunderland went on to score from the restart and won the game 5-2 with Phillips bagging four, and the football league championship to boot.
