Gareth Seddon will be known forever more at the player who grabbed the Shakers 6,000th league goal after scoring Bury's first against Darlington, following the game we had a quick chat with the former RAF man.

"Over the last couple of games, all the players have been talking about it and who would get it. I lay in bed this morning and I just thought - I fancy it today. We've had a couple of games where we haven't scored and we were talking about it on the bus on the way here today, but it was nice to be able to get it."

"Nobody can take this away from me, and its something that I will remember for the rest of my career. It's a big moment for Bury Football Club and I'm just glad that I was the one to get it."

"I was hoping that Shaughny would get it because he is Bury through and through and it would have been great for him to get it, but it's just as good for me. You never know what's going to happen in football; twelve months ago the doctors were saying I'd never play again."

"It just proves that if you're positive, and if its something that you really want, you will stick to it and you will get it. I've been working really hard in training and its been hard for me because I didn't play at all for 12 months, my legs have been getting tired in training and in games, but the gaffer has done well with me."

"I'm feeling sharp and there are a few more goals to come hopefully. We've been really up for it the last couple of games. We've had people coming in talking about the mental side of the game, not just the physical side. We have the ability at the club but the lads now realise that we have to get ourselves up for it every single game."

Meanwhile, manager Andy Preece singled out Gareth for his own praise and said. "It's fantastic for Gaz. I kept telling him to keep his head up, something good will happen. He has had some very low moments and we stuck with him and he worked really hard at it."

"Then in the next season he is there scoring the clubs 6000th goal and he has gone down in history and its something he will remember for the rest of his life, if you show that belief and determination, then things will come good for you, and they have for Gareth."

For the record, Gareth joins a select group of Shakers players who have scored landmark goals over the years.

The 1000th goal was scored by a Jack Parkinson on 08 Sep 1914 v Huddersfield (A) in a 1-0 win. Goal 2000 was scored by Les Vernon 30 Sep 1933 v Fulham (A) in a 3-3 draw.

Goal 3000 was in a 4-1 win at Plymouth on 26 Nov 1955, scored by Walter Kelly, the 4000th one was scored by George Jones v Gillingham (H) on 22 August 1970. The 5000th came from Joe Jakub on 15th March 1986 in a 3-0 win against Bournemouth at Gigg Lane

Finally, goal 6000 was scored by Gareth Seddon at the Reynolds Arena on 25 October 2003 - well done Gaz.
