How many men does it?..
Well at Gigg Lane, it takes at least four.
The floodlight tower in between the Main Stand and Cemetery End did have five blown bulbs that obviously need replacing - but it's not as easy as it sounds.
To change the bulbs, staff first had to lower the tower - amazingly, club maintenance men do not climb the towers to change the bulbs, we bring the tower to us.Site Electrical, the clubs contracted electrical engineers, have all the necessary kit to easily accomplish the job.
Engineer Andy first connects a hydraulic ram that lifts the tower around two inches. This free's a small circular plate on the side of each tower and once this has been moved into a different position, the hydraulic ram continues to lift before gravity takes over some of the descent.
Eventually the tower will lift free from its support - if you listen carefully you can hear the tower 'crack' as it lifts away, before tilting towards the ground.
One the tower is lowered, the hydraulic ram holds it in place whilst the essential work of replacing the bulbs is completed. Then exactly the opposite happens, though this time the ram pulls the tower back into position.
And for the benefit of Andy's wife, this is what he does when he's not sat in the van all day?.
