Trialists Revealed

Posted on: Fri 11 Jul 2008

Speaking to the Shakers official Web Site on Thursday, gaffer Alan Knill has explained his theory on trialists as well as naming those currently on trial at the club:-

"Trialists have always got a chance and it's up to them.  Some have been recommended by agents, some have been recommended by scouts and coaching staff, so we are having a look.  I just don't like having too many.  I don't like it when you have more trialists than actual players."

"Phil Marsh is the first, he was all over sky sports yesterday.  He came in out of the blue, his agent rang me and asked us to have a look at him, though I do know that he didn't play that much last year for Blackpool. It's local for him and easy for us to have a look at him."

"Michael Jones from Tranmere Rovers is with us.  He comes highly recommended from some people that I respect.  Also, we've got Danny Racchi - a right back - from Huddersfield.  I've seen quite a bit of him, he can play right back or right wing and the other is Nathan Joynes, a striker  that was with Chris Wilder at Halifax."

"We've got four at the moment, and any more than four or five gets silly.  For me, they have to bring something to it.  I've been at places before where they bring trialists in and it becomes embarrassing.  You have to be really careful who you bring in, because sometimes your players can look at it and you can see them thinking that the gaffer doesn't know what he's doing, so you have to be really careful about it."
