Fans Team come back with Silverware
It all started for Team MB at 18:30 on Friday evening as they took on local rivals Rochdale. Rochdale were the 2008 League Champions, being unbeaten in all of their 20 League games, and were aiming to be the first team in the history of the IFA to do a 'double'.
Forever Bury, meanwhile, were aiming to put the disappointment of last years Final behind them by going a step further and lifting the trophy.
The game started brightly for Bury, and the early signs were there for Rochdale as the IFA's top scorer, Nev Hardman had 2 chances on his weaker left foot. Both were struck well and forced the keeper into saves.
After some strong Bury pressure, they got the lead their play deserved. A long throw by Jonathan Berry, aka Bez, was met at the near post by Carl Newton, who cleverly headed the ball down into the ground and between the keepers legs. 1-0 to the Shakers
Cup Final Team: Gaz Reynolds, Stu Evans, Warren Stone, Graeme Tobin, Craig Davies, Simon Joos, Kevin Hothersall, Carl Newton, Jonathan Berry, Ant Grindrod, Neville Hardman. Subs: Gary Stone, Mark Hothersall, Ben Hadley, Neil Saville, Chris Murray.
On hearing the news, Shakers gaffer Alan Knill reacted by saying:- "Its brilliant that the lads have won this, everyone at the club is very pleased for them.I said when I first came here that we had the best fans around and look whats happened now.Its brilliant, congratulations."
