D Day is coming for trialists
"Progress continues to be good, but Ricky Anane has tweaked his Hamstring on Tuesday at Halifax. He wanted to train yesterday but we had to stop him. It's just a stretch but we think he's ok and apart from him, we are ok with injuries. He's very keen and he's very enthusiastic. It can be a problem with a player like Ricky, you have to pull him back at times and slow him down, but I'd rather have players like that than the other way round."
"The idea is to be fit and strong as quickly as you can and so far we have, on Saturday we looked fit and strong. I can't see that changing much between now and the start of the season. There was a bit of disappointment that we didn't win the game, there always is, but it's only pre-season. We are not playing for points, we are playing for fitness. I was delighted with the way the players played and hopefully that's how we will play for the rest of the season."
"It wasn't the test that I expected, but that was Huddersfield's first game and it was our third. I did think it would be a little bit more difficult than that. I'm sure Stan will be looking at them in three games time and they will be a different team, but I did think it would be a bit more difficult than it was."
"All the trialists are still doing ok and I'm sure D Day is coming for all of them. Whilst they are with us, I am still trying to look for better to see if there is better players out there, but I have to say that all of them have done pretty well whilst they have been with us. We've got these two games on Saturday and Tuesday and then we will probably make a decision after that."
"We have to make a decision for them and for us soon. A couple of them have only ever been here for the training to get themselves fit, there was never anything on the table for them, but there are some that we are having a good luck at."
"Domaine Rouse is on trial at Cambridge United with a view to him going on loan there. It's like all the kids that we have, they need to play. Gary Brabin has taken him, plus we felt that he needed to get out and go and see something different so I was delighted when Gary said that he would take him. He's there for ten days and we will see what happens at the end of that. He needs games and I can't give him games at the moment, he needs to play proper football."
"Tuesday night was another win, but not the best performance. We played Huddersfield and all the lads were up for it because it was Huddersfield, then you go to Halifax and it's really difficult to get up for it. Sometimes it's hard for us, especially myself and Chris because we expect so much. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The bigger picture is that it was another 90 minutes for some and 70 minutes for others. You have to think that we are not always going to play really well, the most important thing at the moment is that the players get fitness out of it. I took a step back and it was just one of those games."
"I know that when I was a player, I would have been exactly the same. I would have liked to have played against Huddersfield and wouldn't really fancy a game at Halifax. You have to take a step back and put it all in context really. It was their game, not ours; ours was just to get fit. Ricky got the goal and that will do his confidence good, but to be fair, they have all been good. Ricky enjoys being in and around the first team squad and he's done quite well."
"Sheffield Wednesday and United next, it's a bigger test for us - plus they have already played pre-season games. These are the games we want. We've got Burnley coming up so we might as well play some championship sides and see what its like. We've played two league one teams and have coped ok, so we'll see what we are like with them. We are expecting them to have more of the ball than the teams that we have played so far."
"We've got two Sodje's around the place on Saturday, but Akpo has done unbelievably well and I for one probably didn't fancy him when he went from Port Vale to the Championship, but he's done ever so well. He's made himself a championship player. He's got enthusiasm and work rate, plus he's added a bit more to his game as well so I am sure he will be a good test for Efe."
