Bury will not take part in next seasons Totesport.Com reserve league.Alan Knill made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon by stating the following:-

"We've decided to drop out of the reserve league next season, it's something I've done before with Chesterfield, but we've come out of the reserve league.More and more teams are doing it these days but if you've ever watched the reserves - it's like a youth game."

"A lot of teams don't play their pro's anymore whether it's down to pitches or the standard of opposition so we've decided to do that. It's not about saving costs; I just think it's more beneficial. We can always get a game if we needed it for a reserve team, also you look at some of the fixtures such as Carlisle away - it's ridiculous."

"As we came towards the end of the season we had five games to play within about two weeks and the kids are playing three times a week, and I'm not playing the pro's because its such an important time for the club.I just think it makes sense."

"This is not about money or saving money for the club. It's not a test for the pros when they are playing against Under 19's.It used to be men against men and a fair test, now it's not a test and that's my main reason. We can get them games against the bigger clubs when we need it; they are more of a test."

"We will be entering the Manchester Senior Cup and the Lancashire Senior Cup.Oldham do that, they only play the cup games but don't play in the league so we are going to try and do that."
