Two in two days - Carlton signs

Posted on: Thu 11 Jun 2009

Danny Carlton has been a long term target for Alan Knill.  Attempts to lure Carlton to Gigg Lane last summer and again in January both faltered but Alan Knill has finally got his man.

After being released from Carlisle United, Alan Knill swooped to pounce Danny's signature.

Danny Carlton signed for Carlisle in the summer of 2007, joining the Cumbrians from Morecambe, where he enjoyed six good years of football. The Leeds born striker came through the youth setup at Morecambe and was handed his first team debut in March 2002.In total, Danny went on to make a total of 199 appearances for the Shrimpers and bagged himself an impressive 62 goals.

His final game for the Lancashire side secured his place in their book of legends when he scored a fantastic goal at Wembley in the play offs - the goal that propelled Morecambe in to the Football League.

His excellent goals to games ration brought a move to Carlisle United for a nominal fee in June 2007 where he went onto make a further51 appearances and another three goals. A short loan spell to Morecambe and Darlington, with another 17 appearances and four goals came to an end during the later stages of the season and Danny found himself surplus to requirements at Brunton Park come the end of the season.

A quick, strong forward who causes defenders real problems in the box, Danny is highly regarded by Shakers manager Alan Knill and hopefully he can rediscover the form that took Morecambe into the football league.

Reaction from Alan Knill and Danny Carlton will be live on the website later today.
