Schumacher roars into Gigg

Posted on: Thu 08 Jul 2010

Former Everton, Bradford & Crewe midfielder Steven Schumacher has agreed terms to a two year contract with the Shakers of Gigg Lane this morning.

Steven began his career at Everton where he gained England U19's honours and was named as captain, but had to leave Goodison Park in search of regular first-team football.

After brief loan spells at Carlisle United and Oldham Athletic, he joined Bradford City on a permanent basis in July 2004 on a free transfer.

He went on to make 130 appearances during his time in Yorkshire, scoring a commendable 15 goals from his midfield position before he was eventually released at the end of the 2006/07 season.

Steven quickly agreed terms with Crewe Alexandra and although, he prides himself on scoring goals, injuries hindered his chances in his first season with the Alex but not before he scored the club's Goal of The Season against Swindon in September with a stunning volley.

An ankle injury sustained in October kept him sidelined until January when he returned to make a regular spot in midfield his own, though sadly for him, he found himself again surplus to requirements come the end last season and left Gresty Road in May.

Crewe's loss though is Bury's gain after the player agreed to a two year deal.  The contracts will be signed soon
