The pre-season fixture list starts on Saturday with Burnley arriving at Gigg Lane. It's going to be a case of 'who's that that's just come on' in Bury for most as Alan Knill takes a good look at his new look squad - plus a handful of trialists. In total, the gaffer has around 25 players to utilise for this game. We probably won't see all of them, but the game is a chance to see the new signings for the first time, the new kit for the first time and to get used to familiar settings again.
Peter Sweeney, Joe Skarz, Andy Haworth and Steven Schumacher get their first run out. Of the trialists we do know about - former Shaker Simon Whaley will feature at some point. The gaffer won't name names until we see a Teamsheet on Saturday.
Formation and styles of play is something else the manager has mentioned in recent weeks, he wants a fall back plan, a shape he can revert to should things not work out. So we may see several different things being tried over this series of games.
Cameron Belford starts his first pre-season as number one choice in the keeper race with young Ritchie Branagan deputising his old role on the bench, unless of course there is a keeper amongst the trialists.
Burnley are also tinkering with their own team including line-up and players to be used.Brian Laws will use most of his first team squad - including their three new arrivals since relegation from the big league last season.Ross Wallace, Chris Iwelumo and Dean Marney will all figure for the Clarets.
Pre-season games mean absolutely nothing in term of the season, its not that important what the result is.Fitness, stamina, shape and getting back into the game mode are the main aims - not just for the players. Both managers will try different things, styles, shapes and formats. The usual second half substitution race though will have many wondering - lets just hope that both managers name all their trialists....
Kick off is at 3:00pm with doors opening from around 2:00pm.
