Robbie retires

Posted on: Mon 12 Jul 2010

Bury FC sadly, have to announce the retirement of Robbie the Bobby for the start of the new season. Years of entertaining supporters and children throughout the Bury area, not just on matchdays but on literally hundreds of other events, has finally taken its toll on the clubs favourite mascot.

Community Trust Director Paul Weller spoke exclusively to the Bury FC website about what is clearly a sad day in the clubs history. "Robbie has been a fixture at the club for many years but had gone well past his 'sell by' date. Years of entertaining, and a brief spell as head of the notorious MCF (Mascot City Firm), had taken its toll and he was just not fit to carry on for this coming season. There was a lot of tears around the place when I broke the news, but in my job I have to take tough decisions and always think of what's best for the club. I hope I do not become a hate figure at Gigg Lane, it was the kindest thing to do for all concerned and I did it with the best interests of Bury FC at heart. Robbie did not take it well, that's all I am prepared to say about the incident.".

NOW THE GOOD NEWS!

A new, revitalized Robbie has already been interviewed and is in production for the 2010/11 season!! It is a tough act to follow, but the new Robbie will be fitter, lighter, and more capable of appearing at many more events than his predecessor. In a joint team effort between The community Trust, the club, and Forever Bury member Ben Miles, agreement has been reached and now we need a business or individual to come forward to sponsor Robbie for the lifetime of his existence, which we hope will be many, many years.

The new Robbie gave his first interview exclusively to the BFC website. "I feel sorry for the old Robbie but life goes on and I am young, energetic and will be a mascot that the Bury fans can be proud of. I need a sponsor of £2500 for me get my new kit and the sponsors name will be proudly and loudly portrayed on it. Not only do I get out on matchdays but also during the week I will be at various schools and sporting events around the town of Bury. I hope to be around for many years, and as long as I am around then the sponsor's name will be on the kit. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity and look forward to many years of entertaining both adults and children alike".

If you would like to help and sponsor Robbie his agent, Peter Young, can be contacted on 08445 790009 (option 2) or via email at commercial@buryfc.co.uk
