Correcting a record

Posted on: Fri 10 Sep 2010

For many years now, the record books have shown Brian Williams as the clubs youngest ever player at 16 years and 133 days.

However, Ian McPherson - whilst constructing his programme notes for the forthcoming Hereford United game - has stumbled upon a stat that throws the Brian Williams record out of the history books.

On 02 September 1949, Jimmy Kerr was born in Glasgow.  16 years and 16 days later he made his league debut for the Shakers on 18 September 1965 in a 5-2 defeat at Gigg Lane against Norwich City.

Therefore we have to correct the Gigg Lane record books by removing Brian Williams' and replacing him with Jimmy Kerr, after the record books show him to be 115 days younger than Brian upon making his debut.

Brian will not be totally removed from the record books, but will move down to second place - unless of course, somebody knows different!!
