Calderwood Focused on Bury

While Northampton's Tuesday's big showdown with Wycombe looms on the horizon, Cobblers boss Colin Calderwood insists he is looking no further ahead than Saturday's tough looking trip to Bury.

"We've got two games in four days and first of all we have got to try and make sure we win the game at Bury," he said.

"Bury's pitch is similar to Leyton Orient's in terms of that it will be heavy. They have got at least two teams playing on it at the moment and so it won't be the best of surfaces. The surface will be different to what we are used to here at Sixfields and what we played on at Notts County but we have got to adapt to that and if we can replicate our performance at Leyton Orient on that type of pitch we'll give ourselves every chance of getting a result.

"We won't rest players on Saturday with Wycombe in mind, we will be fielding what we term as our strongest side to try and get the three points at Bury.

"We know that the game against Wycombe will be a big game for us but it will be made even bigger if we can get a win on Saturday.

"Out of our two away games this week we wanted to win at least one, we drew at Notts County so now we have to try and win on Saturday.

"From a psychological side if we were to take four points from the games against Bury and Wycombe, to draw with Bury and beat Wycombe would probably suit us better but we will be going all out for the three points on Saturday.

"Chris Casper has overseen some good results since taking over, they beat Wycombe over the Christmas period and because they are nearer to the bottom of the table they will have that fight and they'll be desperate to at least maintain the points gap between themselves and the teams below them.

"Bury is always a difficult place to go and we've lost there the last two years. We have got to rectify that on Saturday by winning at a ground that I am yet to win at as a manager.

"In terms of players contracts, we have spoken to a few of them and with in the next month or so we should be in a position to make a few of them offers but we have not made any offers or even talked figures with anyone yet, despite the inaccurate rumours some people might have spread. With the period of games we're in at the minute we didn't feel that it was appropriate to have those talks now but once this segment of games is out of the way we will sit down and have discussions.

"We all want to be at the right end of the table and in the next division and that helps everybody. We're pushing to get the players contracts sorted out because we want them to feel secure and wanted and from our point of view we want to keep this group together.

"As always you have got to be sensible and we have got to be realistic in terms of what we offer. Contracts can be structured and the players realise that a wage in this division might be slightly lower than a wage in the division above."
