Director Iain Mills

Director Iain Mills gives us his reaction to the events at Soho Square and looks forward to the rest of the season, as well as chatting about the forthcoming transfer window

"Anger and frustration would be very kind talking about the appeal on Thursday.  We are all very annoyed. We were given a little chink of light by the fact that the FA gave us an unprecedented appeal, which had never happened before.  Maybe the original committee that we sat in front of should have said that that was it, end of story."

"We broke the rules, we accept that but there is also varying degrees and when you find out that clubs have broken the rules like we have, but have played players under assumed names and then denied it, who got exactly the same punishment as we did."

"You have to ask questions as to whether it was justice."

"If it ever happened again, we would do exactly the same thing and be honest and upfront about it.  At the end of the day we can go to bed at night and sleep.  I'm quite sure that a lot of the people that do break the rules on a regular basis, and there are a number of clubs, we have presidencies that one club that we will meet in the football league broke the regulations five times in two seasons.  We tried to be open and we tried to be honest and we will carry on doing the same."

"They didn't take an awful long time to make the verdict, they had all the information before hand.  I have to say that the three gentlemen on Thursday even broke some of their own procedures with the way they do things to give us the opportunity to say whatever we wanted to say, they were very good in that way."

"I even felt that their solicitor opened the way for them to allow us to have a replay by saying that they didn't need to kick us out of the competition.  That could have happened, one of the things in there response to the appeal was that it would cause problems to have replays and everything."

"Their representative turned round and said   'ok, it's inconvenient, that doesn't matter.  If you decide to let them back into the competition then that should not be a reason to keep them out.'"

"At the end of the day you have to take into consideration that we are all human beings and no matter how many procedures we have in place, and they have been re-enforced, if somebody doesn't say something or do something, then things will fall down."

"Everybody is upset about it.  If we do well, we all take the plaudits, if we do badly, we all take the criticism."

Iain Mills speaking to Shakers World

"We took the Bury fans that did go down to London for a beer after the hearing and I do thank them very much."

"The support we've had over the last two weeks has been fantastic.  Football fans get criticised for many reasons and yes, a large number of them are extremely biased, but at the end of the day, they do like to see justice done, whether it be by law or by natural justice."

"We now have to move on, we are talking to one or two of the players about extending their contracts, we believe that we have a good young enthusiastic manager (who does make one or two mistakes), we have one or two good young players that we want to keep and it is our intention now to try and get a play off place or automatic promotion, we want to do better than we did last year."

"In the last three of four years we have moved on greatly.  I know some people don't think it's been quick enough, but we are still in business, we are still running. In the next few years we hope to move up at least one division."

"I'd just like to say sorry to all the fans that have been let down.  It's not intentional and there are a lot of people that have said various things.  One of the comments I've seen was that the directors' on the night should have asked Chris whether Turnbull eligible to play, that did happen, in fact Ian Harrop feels terrible about this and has offered to resign, but as I have said earlier on, we are all in this together and I think Ian Harrop and Chris Casper have done very well, and so has everybody that has worked for the club as well the fans."

"You can see the difference around the place to what it was like when I came onto the board three years ago, hopefully now we can take it further together."

"With the transfer window opening in two days time, this club has a reputation for being reasonable with our players.  If a fantastic offer comes in for one of our players, and it's the right move for the player and the club, then we would sit down and discuss the issue."

"There have been a couple of stupid offers already.  Some people think that the old days are still here where they can come in and pick somebody up for 20 or 30 thousand pounds, I'm not sure they could even pick me up for that."

"Our intention is to extend contracts and to move onwards and upwards."
