No delight in spoiling their party

Posted on: Fri 04 May 2012

"I'm over the moon for David Worrall and all the awards that he has won. He's had a good start to the season and an excellent finish to the season, but he had a three month spell in the middle of the season where we didn't get anything out of him because of illness.Even when he was involved, it was from the bench because he wasn't fully fit.Even going back a few months, during the MK Dons game, we brought him on at half time and he was struggling with it.If you had said then that he would go onto win player of the year, you would have thought it strange.

Next year he needs to be aiming to playing 46 games and not 26 games. If he does, he will go onto bigger and better things.People have told me before now that player of the year awards are earned from February onwards, what you do in September gets forgotten.People do have short memories sometimes. There were a good three of four that could have won it.David was everyone's choice but was probably everyone's choice over his performances over the last six weeks.

There is a lot more to come from David, and first of all we need to get him on the pitch more regularly. He also needs to become fitter, faster and stronger. He can improve on every physical attributes and we know how to do that. We've come along way with him and we will continue to try and improve him to get him fully firing as we know he can.

As for Saturdays game - this is far from an end of season kick about.Obviously they need to win their game to cement their end of season play offs. It's very similar to the game last season other than it doesn't affect us in a great deal, apart from in terms of wanting to finish in the top half of the table.

The fact that Stevenage have something to play for will suit us, it increases the whole atmosphere, the tempo of the game and we will go there and give it a good go.We owe it to Greg Abbott at Carlisle United and Keith Curle at Notts County that we do have a go.If it was the other way round, I would want them making an effort for me.We certainly are not going there just for a kick about, we will be having a right good go at them.

We know it will be a full house, we know their fans want success, we know the atmosphere is nailed on - but that's what Notts County were saying two weeks ago.It suits us when a team comes out and play. The fact that they have something to play for will make it a far more enjoyable game. The atmosphere will make our players rise to it.Thankfully it's not a game where two teams have nothing to play for, I'm looking forward to it and so are the players. It's a nice pitch and I saw them play there a few weeks ago and you can pass the ball on it.

Apparently Shaun Harrad is a Notts County fan, that's happy days for us - maybe he can do his side a favour.I've had an email from a Notts County fan praising us for the performance there and there was a mention of us doing them a favour. If Shaun is a Notts County fan then it may give him some extra impetus to go and do something - if he is playing.

I expect the same kind of game as last year, a good advert for league Two.It was too and fro and hopefully we can go there and promote what we are trying to do.We want to show everyone just what a good side we are.

We know we can go there and spoil their party.I won't take any delight in doing so, but it's about us and what we do.I want to win the game to finish in the top half, and that will be a massive achievement for us.It will be a good atmosphere and that will benefit for us
