When I came in I just felt that we needed something and you could say that the writing was on the wall then for Jim Provett, and to be fair to Jim, he's been excellent with it, especially when Darren Randolph went back to Charlton. Obviously he was disappointed because he's been excellent and his attitude was excellent, but I just felt that we needed something else and some fresh impetus."

"All the players have been good and with Colin Woodthorpe, it was his age.  We've got David Buchanan now at left back and with the greatest of respect to Colin, at 39; he isn't going to make us better.  He's steady but if I am going to get somebody in, I want somebody that is better and really pushing Buchanan."

"With Dave Challinor it was injuries, he didn't finish the season, he did all right for me and again I looked at him and thought that I will need something different.  He's a really good pro and a good servant to the football club but I just felt that I needed something different.  I explained that to him that sometimes it just needs freshening up and that was really the reason."

"With players like Ben Leonard, Jordan Stepien, Aaron Grundy and Andy Mangan.  I just want better than we had.  With Andy Mangan, he was sent out on loan and he didn't really play enough there and then he came back injured. I weighed it up and thought would he play for me next year.  I don't want somebody of his age as a fringe player, I want somebody of his age in the team and that was really the choice, I can try and get better."

"It was difficult with Andy Parrish.  When I came in everybody told me what a good player he is.  He had played wing back and I was never going to play with wing backs.  I'm 442 and always will be.  I asked Andy what his best position was and he said at centre half.  We kind of didn't really agree on that.  Then we played him at right back in the reserves, and I told him that I didn't really think he had done enough.  That was the decision; it wasn't a decision that was based purely on the football club. He is such a good lad and if he had stayed and we offered him another contract, and then he didn't play - it would just breed frustration.  Hopefully he will get another club because he is a really honest kid.   I thought it would be best for him to move on and I will try and find better."

"The six that have been offered deals have been given time to think about it, it's been a week now and we will be calling it in next week and try to get some answers as soon as possible because all the time that they are stalling, players are getting signed by other clubs, so we need some answers - yes or no.  If its yes then fantastic, if it's no then we all move on.  We can give them a month, we don't have to put a deadline on it, but we can withdraw the offer if we have to.  I don't really want to do that, but I want some answers.  There may be some leeway with some of the offers, and some not.  The players have to make the decisions or come and see me."

"With players leaving, players are coming in.  I've spoken to two this week and had meetings with them. I've got meetings with another two next week.  Hopefully we are getting somewhere.  The difficult thing with the players I am speaking to is that they are players that are wanted, so there are quite a few clubs talking to them. All I have told them is the truth, what I am about, what we are trying to do here and the progression that we have already made and the fact that we think it is going to progress more.  If they become a part of it, then they will get better."

"I have a good track record with players and making them better. If they come here then they will have care and attention and I will try my best to make them better footballers.  We can't say that we will give them the most wages; we can say that it is a fantastic stadium, we can't say that we have fantastic training facilities but I can tell them that I will guarantee that I make them better players."

"The hardest part is selling the club because we've had three years of struggle.  It's obviously not the biggest budget in the world, it is kind of difficult but I knew that when I took over.  The good thing is that we finished really well and all of a sudden this is not the Bury that we saw this time last year.  This is a club that looks like it is going places, the team is going places. Ideally I want to nail one down next week, ideally I want the majority done before the end of this month."
