It's all coming together
"Dave Buchanan, Glynn Hurst, Cameron Belford and Brian Barry-Murphy have all agreed and will be signing their new contracts first thing on Tuesday morning. They have all agreed and the only one outstanding is Nicky Adams. That one is ongoing still. We are nowhere nearer him signing or him leaving, we are in limbo at the moment."
"For me David Buchanan is my left back. He just kind of fell into that position. It was Chris Brass that said play him at left back, he fell into it and did really well. So we've decided that we are going to try and teach him to be a left back. He's got all the qualities and he will be a good one, he's got great energy, he gets forward and he's got a good delivery, so we are going to teach him how to be a left back."
"I'm delighted that Glynn Hurst is staying with us. There was a fair bit of negotiation, but he decided that he liked what we did last year and he thinks that he can be a big part of what we are trying to do. I'm delighted he's staying; I get on really well with him. He's really good in the dressing room and he has plenty of influence around the place. He's a really good lad and a good influence, especially amongst the younger players."
"BBM has turned down deals from other clubs, and again it took a long while to persuade him to stay, but he is another one that did really well for me.I must admit that when I first came in, I wasn't too sure about him, but once he was in the team, probably one of the most consistent players."
"As for Cameron Belford, you look at this size and you think question mark, but Neil Cutler has worked with him and he is so athletic. The thing that impresses me is that he really wants to be a goalkeeper, when he's on the pitch, he looks the part and I think he will do really well. We've given him another chance, another year to see what we can bring out of him with proper coaching every week.I think he will flourish; he has a really good attitude. He wants to be better and that's the most important thing."
"Belford has a year, Hurst has another year but Buchanan and Barry-Murphy have another two years."
"We've done a deal with Stephen Dawson and his agent and he will be in tomorrow to finish it all off. He's another one that I think we have done well to get. There were quite a few clubs interested in him.I met him really early on as soon as the season finished. We got on really well and we did the deal without anyone else getting involved. He decided that he wanted to come after we went out of our way to get him. It's a big commitment from him, he lives in Leicester and there were plenty of clubs that he could have moved to but he's going to move to Manchester and play for us.I'm delighted with it, he's somebody that I have liked for a long time. He's full of energy and he puts his foot in.The only thing that is missing form him is a goal, but he does have it in his locker so we just need to work on that."
"The deal with the defender is done.Unfortunately we can't say who it is at the moment, but we have been talking to him for a long time, but hopefully by tomorrow we can say who it is.There are some contractual things that he is going through, so for those reasons we cant go out and say who it is."
"The deal with the striker is a bit more difficult, but we are hopeful and we will probably know more by the end of the week.If it doesn't work out, then we will go for the other targets that we've got. We've spoken to a few players with the idea that if we miss one, we will go for the other."
"I've spoken to Elliott Bennett and Mick McCarthy and they are all for Elliott to come back, so hopefully we can do that, plus they have another player at Wolves that we are interested in, so hopefully we can do that as well."
"All of a sudden we think it's come together and at the right time. It's probably been going on for two months with the same players.I think its been really quiet. You look around and there's not been too many players signing for other clubs and coming now in the first week of pre-season that we've more or less got things sorted. We just want one or two to come."
"Chris Wilder has come in as assistant manager today and I'm delighted. He's been a manager for six years. He's knows what it's all about and the most important thing for me is that he brings me a knowledge that I don't know, and that's non-league.I honestly don't know too much about it, I've not had the time to watch it but Chris will bring me that knowledge.I'm sure and as we have already seen, there are plenty of players in that league that would do a really good job for us.It's something that I have looked into and he brings something more than I have."
"I've known him for a long time; we are at Southampton together though I'm a bit older than him. We've kept in touch and wherever he's been as manager he's always phoned me about players and I've asked him, so when it came around, I thought it was a good choice for me."
