Looking forward to the challenge
"I've known the manager for a long time and we've been speaking regularly, and after what happened at Halifax over the last season I knew that my time there was coming to an end. Alan Knill is also a personal friend of mine as well and we have been talking recently. I'm just glad that everything is sorted out now."
"It's been a nightmare at Halifax; they've not had the best of times. It's been difficult for the last six years and the off the field problems have been well documented. We just tried to battle on the best that we could. The last two years have been difficult ones for myself and the players, but its part of the education and the learning curve. I know that I am coming to a stable club in Bury, and a progressive club and I am really looking forward to that."
"Halifax are Unibond North now. As soon as that decision was made, it was more or less obvious. I've worked as a player in the football league all my life and a little stint out of it when I first started management. We were full time in the Blue Square Premier League; it's a full time league. What's happened there is disappointing for everybody, the supporters, the players and myself. Hopefully it will rise and something good will come out of the situation."
"There were good times, and one game especially in the LDV but I don't think I'm allowed to mention that game here (Click here). It was one of the first games in charge for Chris Casper. It was a good night for Halifax, but hopefully we can have some good nights here at Bury now."
"I came down a couple of times last season and watched a few games. I watched the Exeter game in the FA Cup. I know there have been a lot of changes here recently but with the manager's reputation since he took over and the progression that the players have shown under his guidance. There are a lot of quality players here, and I know that the manager is trying to add to that."
"League two is an open division next season, there is no reason why the club cannot improve. Under the manager's guidance, the players can improve again and take it to the next step, if they do, who knows what can happen."
"At Halifax I was in the role of manager, chief scout, kit washer and everything, so we take on a lot of tasks as a manager. It's with you 24/7 and whoever you are with, you want to do well. If that means doing the hard graft and doing the miles watching games, then you have to put it in. I certainly love my football and I would love to see us being successful next season."
"Alan Knill is thorough, professional, his organisational skills are spot on and his desire to be a top manager is there to be seen. He was very unfortunate at Rotherham and the proof is in the pudding in what he has achieved here in a short space of time. He will want to kick on and he won't want to rest on what he achieved last season. I don't think you can do that in football, he will want to kick on and take this club to the next level."
"The gaffer wants me to take the lads running tomorrow, so I'll have to fit a full pre-season for myself into one day, but pre-season has been planned out. We know that it has to be structured in the right way with the games coming up. I would imagine that the players will enjoy pre-season. There is no getting around it, there will be a lot of work getting thrown into five or six weeks, but knowing what the managers is like, the most enjoyable thing is getting them on the pitch and improving the players so that come the first game of the season we are on the front foot and being nice and positive."
"I just want to be involved in something that I can see going forward and I know from the people that I have spoken to about this club is that it is run in the right way, it is professional and people want to progress. I'm not an egotistical type of person, I don't have to be number one, and I am here to assist the manager in any way that he wants me to and if I can take a bit of pressure of him."
"I will be working with the gaffer, he's the number one, he's the manager and if there's anything that I can do to assist him and be the buffer for him, then I will do it. I'm looking forward to it, there were a couple of things that popped up at the end of the season, but as soon as I met with Alan and he outlined his plans and what he wanted to do and I've really been looking forward to it. Over the last week I've had to have some sort of closure with Halifax, and that's been difficult, and now I'm looking forward to my next challenge here."
"There is something happening here, you can sense the club moving forward and it's great to be involved in. Hopefully with the momentum that the team gained last season, we can kick it on. We all saw Rochdale and Stockport have a taste of glory last season, there is no reason why this club cannot be successful."
