"The first week back has been good, the lads have come back fit and they look fit and strong.  It means that we don't have to do that much, just a little fine tuning.  We got the footballs out today and they looked nice and bright with a football.  I'm delighted with the first week."

"They are fit and raring to go, but there was some disappointment amongst them that we've lost Nicky Adams, but I explained things to them and to be fair, they probably knew before me that he was going.  These things happen, we just look forward now."

"The players that have come in seem to be mixing well.  Efe Sodje was fleetingly in yesterday.  I'd like more players in, that's our aim and we probably need maybe three more players to come in and maybe one or two on loan, then I'll be happy.  We are still looking and it's difficult."

"We are still talking to one striker, and it's been difficult and pro-longed.  The only problem is though; it seems that everybody else is talking to him as well, but we are hopeful that we can persuade him to come here."

"We are a week away from the pre-season games now and tactics won't be coming into these games.  Pre-season itself is to get everybody fit and that's the most important thing, to get everybody through pre-season fit and we don't pick up any injuries.  We may get a few, but we don't want any serious injuries.  Once we come to the 9th August, we want everybody fit."

"There is a lot built up over a pre season, people can say that we have a poor pre-season and then teams go into the league and win.  We just try to get them fit, we will know what we are doing by the ninth and then we will take it from there."

"There is such a thing as match fitness, it's totally different.   That's why you try to build your pre-season.  You don't want to go straight in and play one of the big teams because you don't get a kick for a while, you try and build it like we are with Radcliffe then Huddersfield before the two championship teams."

"Chris Wilder has fitted straight in, he's not shy which is good.  Most of the players knew him or knew of him.  He's really enthusiastic, which helps.  When the players are finding it difficult, he will be straight into them."

"The search for players never stops, even when you've got the squad, your looking for the next one after that just in case.  Obviously with Nicky going, I'm looking for a left winger.  I'm not saying I knew he was going, but we had a fair idea that he might be.  He decided not to sign his contract, and I decided not to tell anybody because you never know what happens, so we've had an eye on a few left wingers but it's proving difficult to get them in at the moment."

"We are not just looking at one, we are looking at three or four and then try to get some answers on them.  Some might be a loan, some might be able to come in, but it's just taking a little bit more time.  In the back of your mind, there's always the thought that maybe Nicky isn't going to go anywhere because I don't think anyone here knew that it would be Leicester until the day that we found out.  Now I have maybe a month to find somebody before the start of the season."

"Efe Sodje was in for an hour on Thursday and the place was in chaos.  That's him, he's a character.  That's what I like about him, when he comes in, you know that the centre half is in.  I'm absolutely delighted to get him.  It's been difficult to get him here as we all know.  He's signed the contract and it's fantastic.  He's a favourite with the players, they like him and they like what he gives them and he's a favourite for the supporters.  He's a proper centre half and whichever centre forward plays against him, will know that he's been in a game."
