Pretty delighted with things
"It was a pretty good workout and different to Radcliffe. It was better quality and I thought we acquitted ourselves pretty well and probably where we are in pre-season is where we want to be."
"It's not about results at the moment, you just want to try and get it into the players what we have been working on over the pre-season, even though physically they have been working hard, we've been working on team shape, movement and other things.I've got to say that I am pretty delighted with things."
"It's early in pre-season, we are knocking the ball about and we look fit and strong to go to the end, which is what we want. For some it was 60 minutes and for some it was 75 minutes whilst some had 90 minutes. Its good and it's another step closer to the 9th August."
"The players see and feel a decent buzz around the place, training is usually pretty good and once they went onto the pitch today, they expressed themselves which is what I want."
"We had four that finished the game today, basically the ones that hadn't played much. Brownie didn't play for personal reasons on Tuesday and Bish, I didn't want to risk him on Tuesday. I thought that it would be a better test for him against better opposition. With Futch - we have three centre halves and we are just missing it around over pre-season so they will all have the same minutes at the end of it."
"Richie Baker in the middle of the park is fit anyway, it's the same with the midfield players, and we will mix them up as well so we have to see who has 90 minutes and who doesn't."
"Four of the five trialists played today. Gary Wales came in after the Radcliffe game with a stiff back and it didn't get better, so he's gone back to Scotland. I'm disappointed with that because he looked really sharp. It's one of those things, but hopefully we will re-visit that again when he is ok. I think we did our bit by him by having his back checked out and he went back with quite a good impression of us in that we do try to look after them if they come in. Hopefully we will speak to him again soon."
"As for the other four, I'd like to keep them and have a look at them in more games. Obviously they are games at different standards with Halifax on Wednesday and Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. You can only make the decision by watching them in games. Some have been disappointing in training and then you put them in a game situation and they look a different player. They've had two and maybe three games, it's really down to them in that they will probably push me for a decision, and I will push them because I would like to see more of them, also I want to see what they are like in and around the place. Do they mix? Are they the sort of people that I want in my dressing room? Are they going to get on-board with what we are trying to do? - it's a matter of time."
"We are after a certain amount of players and we have a certain amount of money. We have a loan player that we think we have coming back. I don't want a squad of 24 where six of them won't get near the team. I want 18 or 19 where they have all got a real chance of playing. That gives me better competition in all the positions, so I am sure that I will be putting my case if I need to about the budget and the players."
"I've spoken to Elliott Bennett this morning and I've spoken to Mick McCarthy this morning. Elliott scored two for Wolves last night at Chasetown and he is looking forward to coming here. Obviously there are some things that we need to iron out with Wolves, but they were both pretty positive about coming. When is the question now and they have gone away to Scotland for a week now so it might be another week before we have him. We are looking at six months at the moment and then see where Elliott is, because he made a great deal of progression last year, if he makes the same again in six months then he might be looking at their first team."
