Its basic errors

Posted on: Mon 17 Nov 2008

"The difference between us at the start of the season and now is in both boxes. We can't seem to find the back of the net in one and giving them away in the other. It's basic, we all see with our own eyes just what is happening. We give them two goals and to be fair, probably could have given them three more before that, so we will try our best to re-address it, but at the moment, it's pretty tough."

"We started off quite well and it was a really open game, we attacked and they attacked and probably could have had a couple of goals, but we didn't and they did."

"We try not to let an open game not suit us.It may have been an open game, but the actual goals that they scored were pretty poor goals. You just can't afford to do that, away or definitely at home."

"We tried to change things around, we've tried everything and obviously we will have to try something else next week.We changed the strikers, not that there has been a problem, but because some have been more tired than others, plus some haven't been in for other reasons, so you have to change it around. We tried to change it again through the game. It's just really frustrating at the moment."

"I believe Andy Bishop was tired. When he played at Bradford he didn't look great and apparently he'd been up the night before.Since then, he's just not looked sharp whether that be in the games or in training, so we rested him and we hope he gets that sharpness back.Unfortunately at 2-0 down, you have to put him on the pitch."

"It's the same with Hursty, through personal reasons he's been off twice during the week and that's kind of difficult to work with, but that's how it is.When he did come on, he had some great chances but he's missed them. It's not just him, I think its everyone. We just can't put it in the back of the net at the moment. We just have to keep going, keep working. There's not a lot we can do about.Obviously we haven't got lots of money to go out and get players in.We have to work with the squad. It's important that we keep faith in the squad and in the players, and hopefully they will come good."

"This is nothing to do with systems or anything else, its errors. We are just not good enough in both boxes. That's how you win football matches; you have to be good in both boxes. It's for us to try and change. For the staff and players, its belief. The bit in the middle is all right, but we get the ball up front and we can't put it in the back of the net and we are not keeping it out of ours."

"A scout from another club has said it, excellent in the middle, but not so good up front and at the back.Stephen Dawson was excellent again on Saturday. As the game goes on and at 0-2, you try a different shape putting Jonah in behind, then went 4 up, we put Richie Baker on whose a more attacking midfield player than Murph. You kind of try everything and in the end, to no avail."

"There is nothing we can do about that game now, it's the worst feeling and it will be the worst Sunday again, but you just have to get on with it.We can't change it around, we can't make wholesale changes because I don't have the squad to make wholesale changes, and to be honest, I don't know whether I would anyway."

"The lads that are coming on from the bench need to make my mind up and that's not happening at the moment, that's how it is.All you can do is have belief in the players and talk to them properly and show them, and then hopefully it will turn round. It turns round really quickly in football."

"It's incredible that we are still two points off an automatic promotion spot. The only thing I can say is that we won't stay there. We need to do something to stay there. We thought we had done that this week and we changed all the training.I thought the reaction was good and we did start well, but again its basic errors so we will have another look at it and go again."
