The worst is play offs

Posted on: Sat 11 Apr 2009

"What a win that is, its massive and I'm just delighted for everybody.  We all said that it was a big game, another big game and it turned out to be just that.  The significance of it is huge.  We are now nine points clear of Shrewsbury and you kind of think that the worst its going to be is the play offs."

"We said this to the players after the game, but its going to take an unbelievably poor run from us in the last four games, and a great run from someone else to get past us.  70 Points was a target for us, now we have four games to get 80 points.  It's been great; we've reached a target but let's not leave it at this.  Let's push on and see where it takes us."

"I've got to be honest here; we don't want the season extended into another month for the play offs.  It's been the longest season.  You look at the players and the amount of games they've played.  If we can end the season as soon as possible, then let's end the season as soon as possible.  The good thing for us, we are at the top of the league - It's simple."

"On Friday we saw the value of a squad, that when we needed people and we have options, they have kind of done the business for us.  Sky Sports just said it was an inspired substitution, but it's great to have the options available.  I know when I was a player, you kind of batter away for 60 minutes as a pair, then all of a sudden you bring a fresh pair on and it changes things - especially if you have Andy Bishop and Glynn Hurst sat on the bench, or it could have been Morrell & Jevons."

"You know that they are good players and for me, it's a fantastic option and I'm pleased that I have that option because we haven't always had that option.  They all feel that they have a point to prove and places are still up for grabs.  Everyone wants to play a part.  Danny Racchi for example is a top player, Richie Baker is a top player and John Welsh is a top player."

"I have a small squad, but there is some quality in that small squad.  Stephen Dawson is out for Monday, but there's not much thinking to be done on what side I put out. Even before the Shrewsbury game, I knew what the team was going to be for Darlington.  The result on Friday is irrelevant because I have the team to play Monday's game."

I don't know what it is with Bury, Elbow win awards, the Danny Boyle story and here we are.  Everybody seems to be wearing something lucky.  Its fantastic result and against a very good team."

"Shrewsbury was the last team that could have done the double over us this season, and the last time that happened we went up as champions.  Danny Racchi said that the league doesn't lie.  If you are in the top eight or nine, then you must be a pretty good side but the good thing about it for me is that we are now unbeaten in eight games.  In my opinion we could have won all eight, we haven't been beaten.  That just breeds a confidence.  Another stat that I like, whenever we have gone in front, we haven't lost a game.  It's a great stat and today we saw that there is a belief in the team."

"Shrewsbury have got a great team and the chances are that they are going to score, but we can score as well and the reaction from the lads after they scored was outstanding.  We've just been talking about Sodje and Futch in that whoever plays against them, they know that they've been in a game.  At the end of 90 minutes, it's been a physical battle for them and it was a good battle with Holt & Chadwick, they are both physical players but my two defenders stood up to that.  Each pair gave as good as they got."

"Nick Chadwick was a player I wanted to sign.  He was coming in on a Monday morning for us to have a look at him, we'd all agreed that but all of a sudden Shrewsbury stepped straight in and offered him a contract, but to be fair to him, he phoned me and told me why.  I told him that if somebody was offering him x amount of pounds go and take it."

"We are ok for Monday, Andy Morrell is just feeling something, Jevo took a slight knock and the good things is that we have two days to get over it before we go again on Monday."
