A good dilemma to be in

Posted on: Wed 19 Aug 2009

"We were excellent on Tuesday, especially in the second half.  We had a few words at half time, though not as bad as it sounds, but there were a few things that I wasn't happy with, we came out and did everything right and I'm obviously delighted with the result, it's a great result for us.  It's the second away win on the trot and again, its just progression.  We played well in the second half at West Brom and we thought we progressed at Darlington.  We've progressed again on Tuesday at Hereford.   Anyone that saw that second half will know what I already know, that we do have a decent team, and especially when you look at what isn't in the team."

"We have players coming back and we do look strong at the moment and we are getting stronger.  I did expect that performance because for 16 months since I have been here, it's pretty much been like that.  We've been strong out of possession, but once we do get possession, we look lively.  I know that we have some players that if you give them the ball, they are dangerous and in the second half on Tuesday, we looked dangerous all the time.  Its great for the players, I'm delighted for them.  You lose one game 3-0 at home and everybody is calling it a disaster, but to then put it right with two away wins on the trot is fantastic, so full credit to the players."

"I'm delighted for Ryan Lowe to get off the mark.  He's a natural goalscorer, he has great technique and we all saw last year that at Chester in a team that struggled, he scored goals and if we can supply him then he will put himself in positions in front of the goal that he can score goals."

"I thought I had four strikers, but I've got five with Domaine Rouse.  I thought he was excellent.  He looks as if he has got something.  Don't get me wrong, we've always known that he has something, we've seen that talent all along the way and now its coming through, but the good thing for Domaine is that its coming through with the other bit which is the attitude and the work rate, the work ethic that to play in my team, you have to have otherwise, he will not play.  They have to train like I want to train, you have to have it.  I'm delighted for him, I thought he was fantastic.  Every time he got the ball he looked dangerous and linked well.  It's a big dilemma considering what I have got coming back and on the bench, but it's a good dilemma to have."

"Jordan Robertson has some personnel problems off the pitch, there is some other stuff going on and he just couldn't make it on Tuesday.  We were aware of the situation and were just thankful to get him for Saturday and we knew that he would be missing on Tuesday.  We didn't do any work with him on Monday and we prepared the team that started.  He will be back for Saturday.  Hopefully we will also have Andy Bishop back for Saturday as well."

"All of a sudden, I have Andy Morrell back; he is due to play 90 minutes in a reserve game on Wednesday so he will be chomping at the bit to start.  Bish will play half an hour, so he will probably want to be on the bench on Saturday, so I'm glad we have all these subs available.  We have to try and keep them all happy and it's a good position to be in at the top end of the park.  If the back eight can do their jobs, then we think we have some firepower for them to play with."
