Desperate for the home win

Posted on: Fri 04 Sep 2009

'This is getting very expensive with injuries at the moment; we lost two more players at Rochdale to injury.  The ones that were involved on Tuesday were those that are left, we do have a lot of injuries at the moment."

"Andy Morrell is now three weeks with a foot injury, Danny Racchi we think maybe two weeks.  Mike Jones is around three weeks, David Buchanan is another week but Damian Allen has trained with us on Thursday and Friday, but obviously he's been out three or four weeks so he will be short of fitness and it will be at least a week and a half before he is ready to play in the first team."

"Danny Carlton is coming along slowly.  He will be off his crutches in a week but it's a long way off or him.  We probably won't really look at him until next year now.  His injury is one of those that you can't rush; you just leave it to the people that know about it and let them get on with it, even though you want them back as quickly as possible."

"Keith Hill told me last weekend that we are there to be shot at because of how well we did, and it's something we've talked about here - is there a hangover from being in the play offs.  Keith said to be fair, I didn't think there was, but now he's not so sure.  We did talk and he did use a lot of sense and he did come out with some good stuff such as because of last year, we are now a big scalp in this league.  It doesn't change anything, we have to be at our best and that's why you get results."

"Tuesday night was better, but we all know that it can be a lot better.  We did test their keeper a few times, but not as many times as I'd like.  Even though we had a good season last year, this is still work in progress.  Things change, people move on, the team evolves and new players come in.  It does take time for them to get with what we are trying to do.  Some have been thrust in because of injuries.  I'd rather ease them in but have been unable to do that, but it is still work in progress."

"For me as manager and coach, I want it now and I do get frustrated at times but I do understand that you can't always have it like that.  It takes time to build."

"As for the game with Accrington on Saturday, it will be the same as always.  Every time you play them, it's a really close game.  We do have a pretty good record against them though.  The last time they were here, they were really good.  They missed a penalty and we scored a penalty in the last minute.  The game at their place, we won 2-1 but they had a lot of possession.  They are all really tough games and I'm not expecting anything different."

"We are desperate for this first home win and I don't know how many times I have to say this, but everything is built on home form, and for us to achieve what we want to achieve, we have to start straight away."

"It's good that our fans are planning to go to Accrington on Friday.  It's not a surprise though, even though they are rivals like Rochdale are.  We've all seen what has happened to them over the years and where they have come from, they've managed to stay in the league, the manager has been excellent in keeping his team competing at this level on what I suspect is not too much money."

"You don't want to see clubs go out through financial reasons and I think it's great that if any other club can help, then they should."
