The proof will come on Saturday

Posted on: Fri 11 Sep 2009

"It's been a busy week, but every week is a busy week.  It's always tougher if you lose your last game though.  We have seen a reaction from the lads in training this week; it has been a little more physical.  That's a good thing and it shows me that they do care and that they don't want to lose."

"The week though doesn't really count for nothing, its Saturday that counts.  That's what they are judged on, they can be the best in the world through the week but its Saturday that counts, and it's all about results."

"On Monday afternoon we got all the lads together and watched Saturdays DVD and I left it to the players to analyse the game.  I'd already seen the game twice before.  Monday afternoon was for them to see it and for them to say what's wrong.  I can say it for all I like, but unless they identify it as well and believe it, then it's a waste of time me saying it."

"The idea was that we got them in, split them into two groups to let them have a look at it and let them decide what was wrong, and to be fair, most of the things that they picked out was what we already knew and only what we asked.  Hopefully it's had a reaction, but the biggest thing for me is that they have decided what's wrong, not me."

"If I am going to be honest, I know what's wrong, but after watching the video again, they decided what's wrong and they will put it right.  We do work on various things and they do have all the information they need.  On the pitch - it needs to be better.  They have decided what's wrong and it's pretty much the same as I knew."

"We are still short on numbers to change things around, though Danny Racchi is back training with us.  We thought we would have Mike Jones and David Buchanan back involved but we will take another look at them on Friday, so hopefully we are starting to get one or two back now."

"The anger and disappointment from last weekend will not go, it can't go.  We've lost three games at home.  I get paid to win games and when you are used to winning games it becomes hard to take, so the sooner it turns, then the better mood I will be in."

"We are seven league games into the season now, nine if you include the cup games.  There is no hangover here.  A hangover lasts the morning after, it's over now and we need to do something about it and do it quickly to erase it."

"I think the problem can be easily fixed.  I'm not asking for anything different than I have asked for before.  It just seems that once they go onto the pitch that I am not getting what I am asking for.  Maybe its me, maybe I'm doing something in training so we've done something a bit different this week.  We've looked at other things and changed it around a little, but the proof will come on Saturday and then we will ask - have we done enough, are we ready."

"The first thing that I ask for is that we compete, be competitive.  Usually if you are, you have a fair chance of winning the game, if you don't, then the chances are that you're going to lose the game."
