It's all about progression

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009

"It's been a lot better week with the three wins.  It's just all positive at the moment.  On Tuesday night I thought we played really well, we passed it and moved it.  Even though we scored three goals, it could have been a lot more."

"We did concede two goals from a set piece and a mistake from Wayne Brown, but the good thing for me is that we didn't settle for that.  Normally you would take a draw at Crewe, but the players and myself didn't settle for that.  I thought we were good enough to get the win and continue to go forward.  We got what we deserved."

"The injury situation hasn't changed, it's just the same.  No Bishop, No Morrell, No Scott and No Allen - so those that travelled on Tuesday - played.  It will be the same ones that go to Torquay.  Its as simple as that, that's what we have got to work with and that's what we will get on with.  They have already proved that they are capable of beating anybody."

"We performed against Cheltenham but couldn't score the goal.  The Port Vale performance was a battling performance, without playing that well, but the two games since then was better.  I'm delighted with the way things are going."

"We are trying to promote good football, that's the way I want to play.  Plus we have to develop as well.  We are trying to do this in what I think is the right way, and that's to develop and win at the same time.  A bit of patience might help, but I do think we are getting there."

"We were fantastic on Tuesday night, we passed the ball, we moved the ball, and we held the ball and had 59% of possession away from home.   Everything that we wanted from start to finish was there.  I've got some talented footballers and the only way that they can express it is by having the ball, so we might as well give them the ball.  That's the difference from the start of the season to now - we are passing it.  I want us to pass it in the right areas.  We can pass it but at the start of the season we didn't, we went direct.  It wasn't happening, but now we are."

"I was talking to a supporter before the game and he told me that two years ago he would have been pleased with 12 points at the end of September.  Now all of a sudden, 12 points is not good.  Looking at it, it is a steady start, now its 15 points and five points off second place.  Its ok, we are going ok at the moment.  Six points in the first month isn't the greatest, but its still six points.  Some teams didn't have any points.  We got nine points in the second month, we progressed and got better."

"We are working towards May.  You don't get promoted in September.  All we are doing is trying to put ourselves into a position where we can be in contention for the second half of the season."

"Now we have the long trip to Torquay and again they have players that can hurt us, although they did lose one of them to a red card on Tuesday.  They do have some good players though and we've seen their squad and it is a pretty strong squad.  They have experience and they do know this league so we are expecting a tough game."
