Positive about the performance

Posted on: Sun 11 Oct 2009

"Without stating the obvious, its two points dropped after being at 2-0, but the performance was excellent from start to finish.  I thought the team were fantastic.  Some of the football has probably not been seen here for a while. It had pace, energy and everything that was missing.  We needed a third goal.  We are competing with no squad here.  You look at their bench and then you look at mine, we have no squad whatsoever but we are still competing."

"Northampton came down last year and are one of the favourites to go up this year, but we were by far the better team.  Again, it was a fantastic effort from the players.  Even though it's a draw and feels like a loss, for me - it's still a point forward.  If we continue to play like that, then there aren't too many teams that can match us."

"We have some football in between all of it that is really very good.  There are people here that have short memories with whatever happened before, but whatever happened before is not as good as what they are seeing now.  Some of the football that we are playing is probably as good as has been here for a long time.  People do have short memories and sometimes it becomes annoying."

"What was on the pitch on Saturday is it, that's all we have.  There is nothing else.  They had three or four strikers on the bench, you look at us and we had nothing.  Even though we want to change it, we just can't.  They've played their fifth game in fourteen days and that's a fantastic effort."

"It's impossible to change it at the moment because of the injuries.  We looked and we had Danny Racchi so we could change Jones, but he was doing ok, Worrall was doing ok.  Baker is central midfield and both on the field were doing ok.  We thought about taking Tom Elliott off, he is really tired but we just can't take him off."

"Obviously we are disappointed, and the good thing is that the players are incredibly disappointed because it feels like a loss, but if we play like that - we are not going to lose too many, and when the opposition manager comes and says that we are the best team that we've played.  It's easy to say that, but we are playing pretty well at the moment and a lot of credit has to go to those players, they've been fantastic."

"The equaliser was a great header and to be fair, if he got in and it was a direct header on goal then I'd be disappointed, but he was going away from goal and it's just a great header.  The first goal we could have done quite a bit about, but the second was just a great header.   It's as simple as that.  Ryan Cresswell had a great header but they cleared it off the line."

"There is no help whatsoever.  We can't do everything that we want to do because we have no squad.  Every time we train, we are worried about another injury.  Every time they go onto the pitch, we are worried about another injury.  We just can't do anything, so until that changes, every body just needs to remember and reflect on how far we have come here, and as well, what's on that pitch and what we are trying to do.  It would be easy for me to say just boot it but I don't want to do that and I won't ever do that.  I want to play football and I want it like we are playing now."

"There are some short memories.  Some of the stuff that was served up a few years ago, they want to remember that and enjoy what the players are trying to do at the moment.  At the end of the day, we haven't lost.  That's six unbeaten and that's as good as most in the league.  I'm positive about the performance, it was excellent."
