A difficulty place to go

Posted on: Fri 16 Oct 2009

"There's no change to the injury situation.  Andy Bishop will have his operation on Monday (19th), Damien Allen had his operation last Monday and seems to be ok.  Andy Morrell is still a couple of weeks away."

"It will be around six weeks before Andy Bishop is back running and playing.  It's his third operation in five months and Andy hasn't taken is very well.  It's been one after another.  We got him in at the end of last season quickly to sort his knee out, he came back and did a lot of work through the summer and thinks that he is fit for the new season, but then he got the hernia.  He played one pre-season game and was feeling the symptoms after that game.  He couldn't carry on in pre-season and went for the hernia operation, and came back again but he was still struggling and now it's an abductor problem."

"He will have them done on Monday and hopefully that will be the end of it.  He's more disappointed than anybody.  He wants to play all the time and he wants to score goals, but at the moment, his body can't take him there where he wants to go.  Hopefully we will be in a decent position when he does come back, and when he does come back we know that it will make us stronger."

"We thought Stephen Dawson had broken a bone in his hand after Saturday's game, but after he went for a scan on Monday we found it wasn't so he is ok to play.  Paul Scott and Richie Baker have both trained this week so there is some good news."

"Last weekend, the game should have been out of sight before half time.  You look at the stats from the game, we had 14 shots on target.  That's probably as good as it's been since I have been here, but it's about results.  It's also about performance though and if we continue to perform like that then the chances are you are going to win more than you lose.  I feel that we are playing pretty well now, as well as we have played for a long time, we just need to turn them good performances into wins."

"Northampton's first goal last week was a poor goal to concede, and it came just after a break in play for an injury and we just switched off.  We had chances to stop it but didn't.  The header for their second was just a good header.  It was like Sodje's at Rotherham last season, it doesn't matter who is marking or in goal - it's just a great header."

"Now its Aldershot again!  The second half last season was probably one of my biggest disappointments, whereas the first half wasn't.  If we don't lose, then I am always happy.  At 3-0 up, we should win the game - but we didn't lose and plenty of teams go there and lose.  I was disappointed at the time because we should have won, but looking back now - we didn't lose and it was a point closer to where we wanted to be.  A point away from home is always a really good point."

"They've gone through a change in management this week with Gary Waddock leaving.  I don't know if it will make any difference to them because it's the same players that have done really well.  I'm just expecting a really tough game, usually it really is.  We did well there last year.  We went there and caught them cold and were 3-0 up, the crowd was very quiet but once they got their first, the crowd helped them back into the game.  We also helped them back into it.  It's a difficult place to go."
