Play Offs - No, let's win it

Posted on: Sun 06 Dec 2009

"I thought we played very well in difficult conditions and against a dangerous team.  We've played Barnet many times and they are always a team with great pace in their side and movement at the top of the field.  When we are attacking, that's when they are dangerous, they break it up and move it really quickly.  I'm delighted with the win."

"That shows how important it was for us to keep the clean sheet.  The three goals on Tuesday night is not really what you want.  There were certain things that we had to put right.  We've done some work on the shape of the back four and things that I expect.  I thought the players put It into practise today against a dangerous front four."

"Adomah and Jarret are both pretty handy wingers in this league, but I thought we were good at the other end.  We had chances in the first half, it was just the final touch, we looked like we wanted to walk the ball into the back of the net instead of pulling the trigger but these are young players."

"Dave Worrall is still learning but the good thing is that we created opportunities and when we had the chances to pass it around, that's when we looked dangerous.  When we threw it into the box it was pretty comfortable for them.  If we had have gone in at 0-0, I would still have been happy with the performance in the first half, but I was delighted to see the penalty go in."

"Making it 1-0 at the right time makes their managers team talk a whole lot different at half time.  They had to come out and go to win the game, which I thought helped us.  Stats show it as 50 50 on possession, but the most important stat is that we scored two and they didn't score any."

"Brownie hasn't had a shot to save, so we have defended well.  Even though they are dangerous, I thought we were pretty comfortable.  There were no real moments of panic, we kept a decent shape.  I just think it was a really good performance especially with bouncing back.  That's what we were looking to do.  Good teams bounce back straight away."

"We have to give credit to Dave Worrall for the last goal, he chased a lost cause and showed persistence.  He got a good ricochet and then carried on.  He was brave with the keeper and got his reward.  We missed him, he has enthusiasm, he has pace, and his ability on the ball is good.  We lost Mike Jones but got David back, that's a bonus, but I'd rather have all of them back."

"I want to keep Danny Nardiello for longer, if he goes back we only have two strikers.  I want him to stay but I haven't asked the question yet.  I will ask the board, then the player and then we will ask Blackpool.  Hopefully we will get a yes to all of that."

"He is a good player and they are a good partnership.  They are mobile and they work quite well together.  He brings the best out of Andy Morrell and I thought Andy was fantastic on Saturday.  He's full of enthusiasm, will chase a lost cause and for a small player, he is good in the air.  The only thing he needed was a goal."

"We have a good chance this season.  We are competing against the better teams and have done pretty well.  If we continue to play as well as we are, then we will be in there.  Saturday's performance says that."

"There is a long way to go.  All we are doing at the moment is trying to get into a position.  It's no different to any of the other teams.  If we are up there come Christmas then we will all think that we have a good chance here.  I've just been asked if we are trying to get into the play offs.  No, we are not, we are trying to win it.  Nobody has won it yet, nobody is running away with it so whilst we are in there - we are trying to win it.  That's where you start, and then see what happens after that."
