A fantastic reaction

Posted on: Tue 29 Dec 2009

"It was a good game, I thought both teams went for it, though the two goals that we conceded were really poor but to score four goals in the second half was a fantastic effort from the players."

"Even in the first half, we had good chances - we just didn't take them.  That was the difference between the two teams.  They took theirs when it was given to them and we didn't take ours.  I was disappointed in that but we then saw a fantastic reaction from the players."

"I said quite a bit at half time, and to be honest, I didn't say anything different to what I said before we started the game, but we just came out better and did exactly what we told them to do.  We stuck to the game plan; we were more aggressive and more competitive.  The two quick goals put us on the front foot."

"Just before Mike Jones scored, we had two great chances - we could have scored more.  The goal just gave us the momentum and we said that whoever gets the next goal would go on and win the game.  I felt that if we got it, we would go on and win the game and that's how its proved to be."

"Both sides had other chances, Wayne Brown made a great save going down to his right.  Their keeper made some saves and all in all, I thought it was a really good game and both sets of players should take a lot of credit for it."

"It wasn't a difficult team talk because we are all frustrated.  At Dagenham we went with a game plan and an attitude but I didn't get it.  If I get that attitude that we saw at the start of the second half at Accrington, at the start of every game, then we will win more than we lose."

"It's a great result and it gives us six points from a month where we have only played three games.  It's a massive result for us.  Even though other teams have played, we have to win.  We are not at the top where we have the luxury of being able to slip up, we are chasing - so we have to win.  Accrington is a really tough place to come and play.  We've been here already this season in the JPT and lost, they beat us at Gigg Lane earlier on in the season and we know how tough they are."

"They are a good side, I think they are probably one of the better teams, plus they have beaten us twice all ready this season."

"With us not playing for two weeks, the injuries are clearing up.  Andy Bishop will see the specialist on Wednesday; hopefully he will get the all clear to train with us this week.  Ryan Cresswell should be back in training with us on Thursday, Damian Allen will be training with us on Thursday and we have Tom Elliott coming in on Thursday."

"Tom is back running and training so we will take him and bring him back into the team.  We are getting that competition for places back; we had it at the start of the season, but haven't had it since.  It just keeps everybody on their toes, as well as the squad that we have got; I've got a decent bench.  We got away with it when we had no squad, now there are no excuses because we have players back.  I think we've got a squad that can really compete.  The proof is on the park and with the results, so we will wait and see."

"It's a fantastic result and its fantastic for the supporters because they were there freezing, but they came in their numbers again.  At half time, a few of them vented their frustrations, I can honestly say that they felt nothing but the same as me and I'm glad that we sent them home happy."

"Andy Morrell was excellent with his mobility and his enthusiasm.  He leads the line really well.  Hopefully it carries on."

"There is no change with the Stephen Dawson situation.  We had a decision to make in do we keep him as captain.  We sat down with the staff and decided yes.  Stephen has not said that he doesn't want to play for the club, all he has said is that he wants to player higher, so if I can do anything to keep him at the club, and if that means keeping him as the captain, then I will do that because as we have been excellent for him, he has been excellent for us, so if there is anything I can do to keep him at the football club - then I will do it.  Financially there is no more negotiation."
