The table does not lie

Posted on: Fri 01 Jan 2010

"Competition for places is not any better.  All those players that we thought we were having back in training are not back in training.  Andy Bishop saw the specialist on Wednesday, and he's been advised to wait a little bit longer.  Ryan Cresswell is just feeling his Achilles a little bit so we are being cautious with it.  We want him back fully fit; we don't want him coming back for him to then drop out again."

"Tom Elliott has been ages getting over his hamstring.  He came back into training this week, but at Leeds so they are seeing how he goes in training today, and if everything has gone ok at Leeds this week, he will be with us next week.  It's another week for all of them."

"Danny Carlton is making progress but he is still a long way from training, and that's really why we've taken Tom Elliott back.  We can't really set a date for Danny, the surgeon said six months when he did it, that works out at around February.  It's so far so good for him, but he's another one we just have to be careful with.  The last thing we want is for him to come back after such a long time out and get injured again.  It's been pretty tough for Danny and Bish, they've both had long term injuries, especially Andy because he sees himself coming back and then he gets another setback."

"It's difficult because they both want to be back so quickly and we do have to hold them back a little bit.  We don't want to rush them back only to get injured again, look what happened to Fabregas at Arsenal.  Its great to get them back, but then there is the risk of further injury so we have to be really careful with them and give them time.  As a manager I want them back quickly, quicker than they want to be back and it is frustrating, but more so for them."

"Damien Allen will train with us next week - thank god for that.  He came in pre-season and did really well, was the fittest out of all of them but then picked up a serious injury.  His attitude though throughout the recovery and fitness has been fantastic.  Whenever I've watched him work, he's at the top level all the time and he really pushes himself, now he has to push himself into the team.  We've not seen him since pre-season and he is on trial again."

"I don't know who upset John Coleman on Monday, he must upset himself in the morning when he gets out of bed.  His comments after the game were incredible.  Some of the things he has said are unbelievable.  I know we all get frustrated with the results and how they go, but I kind of just concentrate on my own team, but John is John - he's good entertainment."

"We've got it in us to score four goals in the second half, but I'd prefer to score four goals in the first half.Grimsby maybe second from bottom, but it's still a tough game, they are all tough games.  Darlington next weekend will be just as tough as Bournemouth away or Rochdale at home.  It's all about three points, they are fighting for their lives so I am expecting a really tough game.  We've been looking at their squad this week and they do have some very good players in there, it's a pretty good squad."

"They are not in a false position, because the league table doesn't lie.  They are in a true position, but they do have a good squad with plenty of quality.  We played well there last year, went 1-0 down early but won the game late in the second half with Mozza and Bish.  Our two wide players were unplayable for them in the second half; we played really well and deserved to win."
