We didn't have the desire

Posted on: Sun 02 May 2010

"The only positive to take from Saturday is that we are still involved, but if we play anything like we played in the first half - then we have no chance.Three points will probably get us in there but on Saturday we were so poor in the first half and we looked devoid of urgency. All the things you need to get those three points were not there and we got exactly what we deserved."

"We've been like this for a while, we've had a decent performance - then a poor performance but that was as poor as we have been at home.We threw three strikers on in the second half, we got the ball forward and looked dangerous but didn't test the keeper. It's disappointing but we still have a chance so until that's out of the way, we don't know where we are going to finish, but if we play like we did in the first half - you are struggling."

"We should have had a penalty in the first half, we had the one against Sodje against Port Vale, but the one on Saturday had to be hand ball. The ball hit him on the arm, it may not have been intentional as most of them aren't, yet he decided not to give it, but two weeks earlier is given. The Torquay one is more a penalty than the Port Vale one. That's how it is, but the referee cannot take the blame for the result, we have to take the blame for the result - its as simple as that."

"We had a go when they scored the second one, we told Ryan Cresswell to get up for the corner but the third goal is a bad one.It was lazy defending when we are not really in trouble. You get what you deserve and on Saturday we didn't deserve anything."

"At Lincoln we made the keeper make one save, on Saturday he didn't make any saves. At Lincoln they had one shot and scored, on Saturday they had three shots and scored three - that's why we are where we are.I cant remember the last time we have cnceded so many goals. They are not great goals, the first one Bish makes a great tackle but then nobody is there to help him and the lad puts it in the back of the net.The second goal we are going forward and get caught, the third one is just lazy defending. You look at last weeks goal and again, its lazy defending."

"We are two goals worse off than last season scoring wise, but 16 different from last season defending - that speaks for itself. We shouldn't concede those goals, we had ten against us in two games.I'm unbeleibavly disappointed, we try and do all the right things and give everybody all the infomationt that they need.We ask for basics, a desire to be better because for us to progress we have to have that on the pitch. For the majority of the season the players have done really well. All we needed in that second half was somebody to make a tackle, a header, be aggressive and it lifts the crowd and it did for around 30 minutes, it lifted the crowd."

"We had an atmosphere for around 30 minutes, but in the first half we sat back and there's no atmosphere because we didn't give the crowd anything to shout abaout."

"Stephen Dawson was struggling, he was ill on Thursday, didn't train on Friday and actually threw up on the pitch in the warm up.We had medical advise on Ryan Lowe that said he couldn't start, but to only give him 25 to 30 minutes. We wanted him to start, but medical advise said no.he said he was ok after the game but we have to rest him now until Friday. Its difficult at the moment, but probably difficult for everyone else as well."

"Wayne Brown hurt his shoulder in training on Friday. He should be ok for the weekend but I've got to say that Cameron Belfrod did pretty well again. He was positive and kicked well and looked bright."
