"The board meeting was good and positive. I believe we have to work to a plan and if you want to get somewhere, it's usually luck. I don't want to leave it to luck; I want an idea of how we are going to get to where we want to be. The first thing for me was that as a group we have to set some sort of realistic goals, whether it is a year, two years or five years. To get there, we have to have some idea of how to get there and I thought the meeting went pretty well and the idea now is to get on with that."
"There are always tough decisions to make when it comes to the retained list. We have six players in contract for next season and that really took care of itself, but I still think it's important that we have those 'in contract players' in so that we can let them know exactly what is expected. Obviously we are all disappointed with how the season finished, and I don't want to be there again net year. We've talked to them all and told them what is expected and then the players out of contract some have been let go, some we have made offers to - some will sign, some won't."
"I believe Paul Scott needed a fresh challenge, plus he's suffered from injury this season that did come at the wrong time, but I just knew that or thought that for everybody, it's a fresh challenge and the time was right. It was really what we based the decision on."
"With Wayne Brown, I was obviously disappointed with the South Africa story that appeared, but these things happen. Wayne was living in this area but moved. He didn't move just down the road, he moved something like three hours away from here, so I kind of read something into that, so we did. Its unfortunate because he has been fantastic for us but you have to make decisions and I thought it was the best decision for all of us."
"Richie Baker struggled to get into the side on a consistent basis, he's a good lad and technically very good but wasn't in my opinion pushing Dawson and Barry-Murphy as well as we expected and hoped. It's the same for Danny Racchi."
"It's a shame for Damien Allen, he's been injured all season. A really mobile and athletic player and yet he spends the whole season without kicking a ball, its disappointing for him and he did impress in pre-season. He is a good talented player but unfortunately for him, it's about value for money. He's had a year out after coming into the club trying to impress. It's difficult to say lets have another look."
"We've offered contracts to eight players, but under the current financial climate, none of them are improved contracts. Every player thinks they should be paid x amount of pounds, but is there isn't x amount of pounds to pay them, and then they can't have it. It doesn't matter if you're a plumber or an electrician or a footballer. If you haven't got any money to pay them what they expect, then you can't."
"It was a pretty tough day and the players that we offered we thought deserved to be offered the chance of re-employment but the offers probably were not the offers they were expecting. Unfortunately, that's how it is."
"Stephen Dawson wasn't offered the same deal that he was offered at Christmas, and to be fair to Stephen, it was a strange one. We offered that deal and he turned it down, all along he had said that he was going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season. We offered him a deal which we had to do. If he comes back and says that he has talked to whomever and it's not for me, can we sit down and talk about the deal - then we would gladly do that. The directors would and I would, but at the moment the ball is in Stephens's court. He's got quite a few clubs to speak to and then he will make a decision. The good thing about him is that we get on really well, I have nothing but admiration for him and I just want him to do well. He's done well for me, whatever happens and if he asks me a question then I will give him the best advice I can on his career. I want him to stay but he knows the advice I give him will be the best for him and his career."
"For Andy Morrell, there is the possibility of coaching as well. I like Andy, he's really enthusiastic and he's one of those players that you know will become a coach, so if we can help him do that, then we will. We've made him an offer and again it's not the offer that he would expect, but we are hoping that he is realistic enough to see that we are giving him the chance to further his career and his next career."
"The good thing about him is that he wants to play and thinks that he has a lot to offer and we think the same. It's not like he is going to take it and then the next one. He thinks he is the number one to start every game and he has a real desire to do well and I like that."
"The players have 28 days to reply to that offer, but I'd prefer it not take that long because we need to know where we are with the budget."
