'I thought the game was pretty positive and obviously we are pretty disappointed to lose. It was a pretty even game. The first thing we put on the board in the dressing room was set plays because that is what they are dangerous at, and that's what proved to be. Whether it was a corner we don't know, but we still have to defend it.
They had one other opportunity with the header at the far post. It happens in games; we had quite a few chances in the first half and didn't take them. Then in the second half they had a bit of the play which you expect because they are a good side, I think they are one of the favourites to do something this year. For the first game of the season, I am pretty positive.
There were a few half chances of penalties, but for me they weren't so sure. They were never blatant. You could see why he didn't give them. He didn't give any, so you have to quickly move on. We are disappointed to lose the game but we lost 3-0 last season but played a lot worse than that. It's important that we pick the positives out if the game, and there were plenty of positives. We will also look at the negatives and try to be better at them.
We gave six debuts today and they all did pretty well considering that it's been five or six weeks that we've been together. Hopefully it will only get better, there are some things that we see on the side line that we see that haven't been done, now it's just really nailing them down. On the whole though, we gave a pretty good account of ourselves. The game is all about winning, and we haven't won. I expect their will be negativity but if we continue to play as we want to play, and we encourage the young players to go and play, then I think we have a decent team here.
We made the changes' in the second half, we thought that we needed some more pace and energy. The two wide players had done well and all of a sudden we hadn't seen much of them, so that what we did with Jones and Bennett coming on.
The first game of the season is a lottery. I don't know how many times I have to say it, we are disappointed, we wanted to win the game, but we haven't. It wasn't the same performance that we had this time last year. There are a lot of positives and I look at my team, it's a young team, we have to be patient with them, nurture them, encourage them and I am quite sure that they are going to get better. Pre-season is pre-season, all of a sudden there is a crowd and the game was a good learning experience for them. They are only going to get better
Tom Lees has come in and he is a good player, he's steady, he can play centre half or right back and I thought he did pretty well. Everybody did pretty well. Tom was one of six debutants and they all did as well as the players that were here last season.
We have no idea when we are going to get this international clearance for Damien Mozika, its got to go to Iran, then France and then back here. We are hoping to have it here on Monday, but we will just wait and see.
Now it's Sheffield Wednesday and we go into that as the underdog. If we perform as well as we did on Saturday, then we will give a good account of ourselves. We have enough in the team to cause problems to any team that we play against. The other part of the game is stopping the opposition, that's what we have to work at. It was never going to be perfection from the start.
Even though we have done well in pre-season, we've not got carried away. There are still a lot of things that we can do better. This is a seasons work, its not just five games. We are all prepared for the work that we need to do. We have to accept that with a new team, it just doesn't come together. On Saturday though, 60% of it did come together, we were pretty good.
Ben Futcher was nowhere near, his ankle is still swollen. On Thursday he tried his best to be fit but he was feeling pain when he put his foot down. We can't risk him. I could say that he will be training on Monday, but I just don't know. His foot is really swollen, we thought the swelling would go down quicker but it hasn't. The good thing is though; Tom Lees came in and did pretty well.'
