"I'm delighted with the result and I have to say that we did make pretty hard work of it. It was a great free kick for the first goal and then a great finish from Ryan Lowe on the end of a pretty good move.
Chris Wilder will be disappointed with the amount of chances that they had but didn't take but it was only on Tuesday night when we had plenty of chances at Sheffield Wednesday. Its swings and roundabouts and we are happy to take it.
The three points gets us up and running. Not many would have given us a chance at Oxford. This is a really tough place to come and get a result. I have a feeling that they will be right up there come the end of the season.
They play with a really good intensity; they like to get the ball forward early and you have to deal with it, though saying that, we didn't deal with it very well and got away with quite a bit. That's how it is, one week you have the luck, then next week you don't.
I'm sure Chris (Wilder) will be disappointed, though I think he does have a good team but in saying that, I think my team is a good team.
It was never going to be an easy game and we have had a tough start with Port Vale at home, Sheffield Wednesday away and then Oxford away. That's a pretty tough start for anyone. To come here and away from home, after they have just come back into the league. They smashed six past Bristol Rovers on Tuesday and it was always going to be difficult for us.
I thought we handled it reasonably well but we know that we can get a lot better. We've told the players in the dressing room after the game that yes it was a fantastic win, but we can be a lot better than what we were on Saturday.
It was a great free kick to go into the lead, but then we gave them a goal back. You do all the hard work and you expect to be under pressure, but we did all the hard work, scored the goal but gave them one back.Their goal for us was a really poor goal but the good thing was that we kept going, and we had to because we were under siege.
When we needed that bit of quality, we had it and it was a great goal from Ryan Lowe. A classic counter attack, we picked it up and then opened them up and Lowey more or less walked it into the back of the net.
I'm delighted with the three points and I think it puts down a marker that we are ok. Everyone is looking at us after twelve players left, we have really a different team, we have a young team and what can we do. We have a lot of character in this side. It's young but it wants to get better and this result will help that.
There is plenty of ability, we should really have been three or four one because they were pressing so much to try and score, that we have to be so much better when we get the ball. There was one point we were three on their one defender. We should have moved the ball a lot better, but we didn't.
This is work in progress. We've only been together eight weeks now so it is work in progress and I am quite sure that we can get better. We've done very well but obviously we want them to be a little bit better.'
