'I watched the DVD from last weekends game with Northampton on Monday, and after watching it, I thought we played pretty well and I said at the time that maybe I was a little harsh on the players, but you say it as you see it at the time. I thought we were a little pedestrian in the first half with the movement of the ball and the pace and passing. In the second half we weren't, I expect that second half in every game.
The performance was pretty good and on another day, we could have scored more goals but it wasn't to be. I thought we played well enough to win the game, that's the thing for me though - we didn't win the game. There is frustration in there as well because they hardly had a kick at goal, and then we gave them the penalty from our free kick which is frustrating. We looked safe and secure up to then, it looked like it was going to be us that would score first. We gave them a lifeline but our response in the second half was really good, but we have to have that at the start of the game.
After looking at the DVD, I can see why the referee gave the penalty and I have to say that it was poor from us. It was our free kick, their centre half has launched it and the striker is in, but I can see why he gave it. At the same time, I couldn't see why he didn't give a penalty for us for the handball later in the game. You have to live with it.
Northampton tried to stop us playing football, but we still did it. We moved the ball around the pitch and made it uncomfortable for them. I am a firm believer in that's how we should play. Sometimes teams will try and stop you playing like that, so you have to be better than them and clever. Every game we play will be compared with the Sheffield Wednesday performance, but that has gone now. We are three games on and we have to move on.
We played well on Saturday and lots of people have told me that they enjoyed the game. It really is about winning, we should be on six points and not four. The lads have been frustrated with some of the performances but that's football, you don't always hit top form.
Sodje has trained this week and although he came off last weekend, we don't see any problems with him for this weekend. Andy Bishop had a dead leg on Saturday, he trained on Thursday for the first time this week but we will wait and see how he reacts to that. Dead legs are always funny ones so we will wait and see. Ben Futcher is also back training and he makes us competitive. He's now got the age old problem of trying to get back into the team. He was the one that was playing, he got the injury and Tom Lees and Sodje have done well together since, so I see no reason to change that.
I didn't really take much notice of Barnet's result at Crewe after our game. To be honest, its irrelevant of what the score was. Barnet at Barnet is always a tough game. We will go to Underhill expecting Barnet to be the best team in the league so we will go there expecting to play the best team in the league. It really is up to us, it doesn't matter to me what has gone on before. It's really about my team and how my team approaches the game. I'm sure that mark (Stimpson) will be saying the same thing about his team.
Very rarely does a team get beat heavily the game after a heavy defeat. Obviously I am expecting a reaction from Barnet, they are at home, the Barnet fans will be expecting a reaction and I am expecting to be playing against the best team in the league.
We don't know if it will make the game tougher, they are all tough, Barnet at Barnet has always been a really tough game and I am expecting no different on Saturday. They've had a huge change in players and manager. Mark is an experienced manager and he will know that it takes time, its the same with us, we know that it will take time but they do have players that can hurt you. There is no different to playing Northampton, we prepare the same way. Its a tight ground but the pitch is always good there.
We will train at Tottenham on Friday afternoon, and it gives the lads a boost. They are always immaculate. Its something to look forward to especially to the younger lads. This is the sort of training ground you want to go to every day and obviously we are very grateful to Tottenham for allowing us to use it.'
