After a defeat at the hands of Hartlepool on Saturday, the Shakers were looking to get back to winning ways against Accrington Stanley, who came into today's game after being destroyed by Bristol Rovers. On 3 minutes, Accrington was given the most dubious penalty I had ever seen when Andrew Todd dived onto his knees just inside the area. Todd stood up and took the penalty and drilled it into the top left corner of the Bury goal to give Accrington the early lead.

As the game reached the 10 minute mark, Bury attempted to get themselves back into the game after going behind unfairly. On 15 minutes, Bury finally had a decision in their favour when they won a free kick on the edge of the Accrington area. Pugh knocked the ball into the area to Challinor, who tried to head the ball at goal, but the Accrington defence cleared it away.

On 18 minutes, Bury earned a corner on the right hand side. Kennedy crossed the ball in to Paul Scott, who did well to get a header to the ball, but it went just wide of the left hand post.

Bury had a good opportunity on 23 minutes when Glynn Hurst did very well to head the ball back into the area from a difficult angle. Buchanan ran into the area and headed the ball at goal, forcing Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin to make the save.

As the game approached the half hour mark, Bury had a good chance when David Buchanan played the ball to the edge of the area for Andy Bishop, who tried to hit the ball at goal on the volley, but the ball went just over the bar.

Just one minute later, Accrington won a free kick on far away from the Bury area. Jacobson fired the free kick into the area, but Dave Challinor was alert and cleared the ball away from danger.

On 30 minutes, Accrington earned another free kick, right on the edge of the area. Andy Todd fired the shot towards goal, but the Bury wall blocked the shot with ease and ran away with possession.

Bury showed that they have the ability to come back into the game when Marc Pugh showed his skill on the left wing as he made his way past two defenders and knocked the ball into the area to Chris Brass. He knocked the ball towards the centre circle for Bishop, but substitute defender Rikki Bains cleared the ball away from danger.

As the first half entered injury time, Bury continued to attack as they attempted to get an equaliser before half time, but were unable to get through the Accrington defence as the first half ended with Accrington in the lead.

Halftime: Accrington Stanley 1-0 Bury

Accrington should have doubled their lead on 48 minutes when Mullin and Brown took fat too long to line their shots inside the Bury box, in the end, a good block by Brass saw the ball safely in the hands of Alan Fettis. From the Bury keepers clearance, Buchanan fired a glorious ball across the box that the home defenders squeezed out for a corner.

Moments later Andy Bishop charged forward with a powerful run, his short pass to Pugh saw the former Burnley youngster fire at goal, but a block challenge by Edwards got the ball clear,The move came forward at some pace and Mullin's shot was blocked bizarrely by Andy Proctor standing just off the Bury goal line.

A Bury corner brought a half clearance on 54 minutes, Buchanan collected the ball and floated it back into the box that Hurst was inches was inches away from connecting with.

Bury almost got back in the game on 57 minutes when proctor hoofed the ball towards his own area, Glynn Hurst got to the ball before the Stanley keeper and directed a glancing header at the corner of the goal, but Dunbavin pulled off a good save to stop the effort, Buchanan following up drove the loose ball straight at Dunbavin.

A surging run from Bishop on 62 minutes again should have brought a goal, but Bishop's cross across the box saw Hurst and Pugh failed to connect before the home side managed to get the ball away to safety.

With the referee going into 'Strange Mode', the game started to break up with several yellow cards being shown, Buchanan and Mattis collecting cards for Bury, whilst Marc Pugh spent some time having a leaking nose plugged and a shirt change due to the blood rule.

Bury got back into the game on 74 minutes when a Buchanan corner found Andy Bishop, the Shakers top scorer had the simplest of tasks of scoring from a couple of yards out to make it all square.

With Bury pressing for a winner, a good ball into the box fell to Glynn Hurst. With the Bury striker under some pressure from two defenders, Hurst attempted an overhead kick but all he managed to do is put the ball into the keeper's hands.

A Stanley free kick on 80 minutes Saw Whalley's cross easily dealt with by the Shakers defence, though the ball did fall to Harris who then lobbed the ball over the bar and into the packed terracing behind the goal.

Andy Bishop had a good case for a penalty on 86 minutes when he was dragged to the floor inside the Stanley box, the official, who was still in strange mode, gave nothing and Bishop managed to get back to his feet, but saw his shot blocked, the ball fell to Blinkhorn who drove at goal and forced Dunbavin into a good save to keep the ball out.

With the Shakers pressing for a winner, Marc Pugh won a corner deep into injury time, Buchanan's delivery to the back post was inch perfect for Paul Scott, but the Shakers defender put the ball high over the cross bar, Bury came back moments later with Bishop, and with the Shakers striker looking for his 15th of the season, Dunbavin dived smartly to keep the scores level..

Another Bury corner on 94 minutes saw Buchanan's delivery headed at goal by Bishop, again Dunbavin saved the keep it all square.

Finally, the referee came out of strange mode and brought the game to an end
