The Shakers named two changes to the side that had a thrilling draw with Rochdale last week. Ben Futcher was suspended so Paul Scott moved from central midfield to centre back as Dale Stephens takes the centre midfield spot. Elliott Bennett's loan spell has ended so he has returned to Wolves, so Brian Barry-Murphy came into the line-up after recovering from injury.
Accrington had the first chance of the game after 10 minutes when Paul Mullin fired a good shot at goal from the edge of the six yard box, but Jim Provett made the good save. Paul Mullin had another chance when he went for goal from the edge of the area, but the ball went wide of the left hand post. The Shakers were given a penalty when Peter Cavanagh brought down Nicky Adams in the penalty area. Andy Bishop stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal to give Bury the lead.

The home side had a good chance to equalise when Paul Mullin broke into the penalty area and fired a good shot at goal, which forced a superb save from Jim Provett. Mullin tried to score with the rebound, but Paul Scott managed to force the ball out of play. Accrington had another good chance when Robert Grant fired a good shot from the edge of the penalty area, which forced another superb save by Jim Provett.
Bury extended their lead on around 44 minutes when Andy Bishop broke into a one-on-one with keeper Kenny Arthur. Bishop fired a superb shot which flew past the keeper into the bottom left hand corner to extend their lead and give Bishop his seventieth goal in three seasons.

The second half was a very quiet affair, with neither team really threatening to affect the score line. Cameron Belford though made his first save in a Bury shirt when Paul Mullin went for goal from close range, which forced a good save from the young keeper. Bury had a good chance to extend their lead with just four minutes left when Efe Sodje fired a deep ball to Nicky Adams on the edge of the area. Adams tried to hit the ball on the volley, but he didn't make contact with the ballas it rolled harmlessly to the keeper.
