The Shakers named two changes to the side that suffered a defeat at the hands of Barnet last week. Steve Haslam comes back into the side after recovering from an illness, and Paul Scott comes back into the side to replace Brian Barry-Murphy.

Macclesfield had the first decent chance of the half on 6 minutes when Terry Dunfield played a good ball into the penalty area for Francis Green who flicked the ball on into the six yard box. However, the Bury defence read the play well and managed to clear the ball away from danger. The game lacked any real passion as neither team had a chance on goal for the opening 30 minutes. The Shakers did win a corner though on the right hand side which Elliott Bennett played to Nicky Adams on the edge of the penalty area. Adams went for goal, but he didn't connect with the ball properly as the flew straight across the face of goal. Just a few minutes later the game saw its first shot of the game when Andy Bishop went for goal from way outside the penalty area, which keeper Jon Brain was equal to.

On 38 minutes Bury had another chance when Andy Bishop fired a powerful effort at goal direct from a free kick, which forced a save from keeper Jon Brain. With four minutes until halftime Bury had a goal disallowed when Paul Scott fired in a rebound from Andy Bishop's shot, but Bury did take the lead just a few moments later when Elliott Bennett fired the ball at goal from the edge of the penalty area, which went straight past the diving keeper.

On 62 minutes David Buchanan was inches away from getting his first goal in a Bury shirt when Andy Bishop played a superb ball to him on the edge of the penalty. Buchanan fired a good shot at goal which had the Macclesfield keeper beaten but the ball went just inches over the crossbar. Bury were back on the attack when David Buchanan played a good ball into the penalty area for Elliott Bennett whose close range shot was well saved by keeper Jon Brain.

Bury were back on the advance on 78 minutes when Elliott Bennett went for goal from way outside the penalty area, but the ball went just wide of the right hand post.
