Bury fans, officials and supporters left Gigg Lane this evening after being mugged.  A poor game by the officials virtually handed the three points to the visitors and left the Shakers bemoaning a hatful of missed chances.

Bury began the game brightly and the flying start that Chris Casper had appealed for almost paid dividends.

Bury's first chance fell to skipper Dave Challinor, a cross from Nicky Adams saw Andy Bishop, making his 50th start whilst wearing a Bury shirt, lose his footing. The ball somehow skidded to Challinor on the edge of the box, his powerful shot though seemed to go straight at Brentford's Adrian Pettigrew and cannoned of his back to safety.

Brentford's lone striker Charlie Ide attempted a long range effort two minutes later that brought an easy catch from Jim Provett. The next chance came some ten minutes later when another Nicky Adams ball lofted into the box saw Glynn Hurst leap above Pettigrew and fellow defender Karleigh Osborne to head the ball powerfully at goal, though unfortunately straight at Ben Hamer.

It was to be Hurst though who felled a Brentford player three minutes later on the edge of the Bury box, a foul that was to prove expensive for the Shakers. After a moment of messing around from the official, including the Bury wall back the width of a blade of grass, Brentford's Glenn Poole curled an unstoppable effort around and over the wall, leaving keeper Provett nothing but a spectator, as the ball sailed past him into the top corner to hand the visitors the lead.

Goal:  Bury 0 Brentford 1 (Poole)

Bury should have been back in the game ten minutes later when Bee's keeper Ben Hamer pulled off a double save to leave the home supporters gasping in dis-belief.  Paul Scott fired the ball at goal from close range, when only one outcome looked inevitable, Hamer somehow managed to get a fingertip to the ball to keep it out, it fell to Andy Bishop and his effort was again somehow kept out of the goal by Hamer before being cleared by Grant Basey.

Nicky Adams had the next chance when a fine goal bound effort was blocked by Osborne - again, more 'in the way' than deflecting clear.  The giant Bee's defender looked stunned that the ball had cannoned off his back for the second time in the game.

With half time looming referee Boyeson awarded another free kick to the visitors in a similar position to the visitors.  Although Poole failed to have the same impact as his first attempt, he did clip the top of the cross bar before the ball bounced out of play.

Bury had a good claim for a penalty on 42 minutes when an Andy Bishop flicked header seemed to be cleared by the hand of Brentford's Grant Basey, but the referee waved away any protest.Moments later Glynn Hurst and Ben Futcher both got into a goalmouth scramble that saw the visitors panicking to get the all clear.

Eventually half time arrived and the conversation at half time was about the Shakers creating chances and not taking them, eventually though the topic turned to the half time team talk that Chris Casper was delivering to his troops.

Half Time:  Bury 0 Brentford 1

The result of Casper's team talk was evident after just seven seconds.Bury started the game and quickly passed the ball around the Brentford half.  Bishop stabbed the ball to Adams, his short pass found Adams, Adams returned the ball to Baker and his measured pass into the box found Andy Bishop.  The Bury striker, making his first start of the season calmly slotted the ball home whilst most of the co-operate supporters were still making their way back to their seats.  Not a single Brentford player had touched the ball before Bishop scored.

Goal:  Bury 1 Brentford 1 (Bishop 45 - (plus 7 seconds))

Brentford came forward seven minutes later and following an excellent cross from Glenn Poole, the tricky Charlie Ide skimmed a header just wide of Provett's upright.Moments later - and from Provett's goal kick, Nicky Adams collected the ball just in front of Brentford manager Terry Butcher.  A quick change of direction saw Adams cut inside his defender and he charged at goal before unleashing a powerful drive at goal from the edge of the box, the ball drifted high and over the cross bar though.

Bury had the ball in the back of the net on 81 minutes when an Adams cross was put away by Ben Futcher, but a raised flag from the officials had the home supporters questioning the officials decisions - and not for the first time.

It was to be two minutes later when Brentford won the game - and again, a dodgy decision from the linesman and officials handed the points to the visitors.  With Kevin O'Connor in an obvious offside position, his cross broke to former Shaker Ricky Shakes just inside the Bury box, his shot found its way into the Bury box leaving the entire Bury defence venting their spleens towards the officials - and it wasn't to be the last time.

Goal:  Bury 1 brentford 2 (Shakers 83)

Chris Casper made a double substitution with five minutes of the game remaining and shifted to four up front - it almost paid off.  A Paul Scott shot on goal was deflected towards James Dean stood at a very acute angle to goal, but the Shakers giant striker somehow managed to fire the ball at goal, only to look astonished as Adrian Pettigrew hooked the ball off the line.

With four minutes of injury time played, the official called a half to proceedings before he found himself being confronted by every single Bury player questioning some dubious decisions.  The standing ovation for the Bury side as they trooped off the field told the story of the game - the chorus of boos and abuse towards the referee and officials wrote the final chapter of the game.
