It was the Millers who had the first chance of the game after around 4 minutes when Pablo Mills attempted a long range effort at goal, but Jim Provett was equal to the shot and made the easy save. Rotherham were on the attack again just a few moments later when Ryan Taylor made a long run to the edge of the six yard box and attempted a shot at goal, but it was blocked well by Andy Parrish.
After 12 minutes the Millers had a good chance to take the lead when Danny Harrison knocked the ball back into the centre of play from the right hand side to Pablo Mills. Mills went for glory again from distance, but Jim Provett was well positioned to make the save near his right hand post. Rotherham were rewarded a free kick on the edge of the area not long after when Steve Haslam collided with Ryan Taylor. Hudson tried to chip the ball over the ball, and he succeeded but the ball had too much power on it and it flew over the crossbar.
The Millers took the lead on 22 minutes when a deep cross into the six yard box met the head of Marc Newsham, who fired the header into the bottom left hand corner of the goal to give them the lead.

Rotherham nearly extended their lead just a few moments later when Ryan Taylor managed to force his way through to the edge of the area and fired a powerful shot at goal, which forced a quick reaction save by Jim Provett.The Millers had another chance on the half hour mark when a deep ball to the edge of the area bounced well for Ryan Taylor who fired a shot at goal on the volley, which forced a fantastic save by Jim Provett who tipped the ball over the bar for a corner. From the resulting corner, Marc Newsham fired a shot from a difficult angle from the edge of the six yard box which went just wide of the left hand post.
The Shakers were given a penalty with just 2 minutes to go until half time when Ian Sharps pulled back on Nicky Adams' shirt. Nicky Adams stepped up calmly and fired the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal past a diving Andy Warrington to equalise for Bury just before halftime.

Bury had the first chance of the second half after just a minute when Dave Challinor knocked a high cross into the six yard box which was met by a high jumping Ben Futcher. The Millers defence was putting pressure on the Shakers defender though and forced him to head the ball just wide of the left hand post. Bury were on the counter attack on 51 minutes when Lee Bullock played a superb long ball forward to the feet of Glynn Hurst. The Shakers striker reacted quickly and fired a ball across the six yard box looking for Andy Mangan, but Andy Warrington was quick off his line to claim possession of the ball.
Rotherham regained their lead on 54 minutes when Chris O'Grady attempted a cross from the right hand side, but the ball to a strange turn which caught Steve Haslam on its route, which forced the ball onto a change of course as it flew over the head of Jim Provett and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

The home side were on the attack again on 62 minutes when Ryan Taylor had a free header at goal from the edge of the area, which went just wide of the left hand post of Jim Provett. The Shakers had a chance of the their own just a few minutes later when Andy Bishop did well to turn and play a quick pass into the penalty area for Nicky Adams, who fired a good low shot at goal, but Andy Warrington was equal to it and he made the save.
The Shakers were looking for the equaliser on 86 minutes Andy Parrish fired a deep cross into the six yard box looking for Andy Bishop, but Andy Warrington was quick off his line to claim possession of the ball. Domaine Rouse almost got his first league goal not long after when he attempted a powerful shot from just outside the six yard box which went just over the crossbar.
