The Shakers named an unchanged squad from the one that thrashed Brentford 4-1 on Tuesday night. Adam Rooney returns to the bench after recovering from an injury at the expense of Domaine Rouse.
With both teams only losing once so far this year when scoring first the opening goal was needless to say crucial. Bury had the best of the chances in the first ten minutes, with Elliott Bennett coming close just 5 minutes in, but his shot from the edge of the penalty area was deflected by Adam Yates. Elliott Bennett had another good chance to score when he managed to find space on the edge of the penalty area to go for goal, but once again the Morecambe defence was able to get the ball away from danger.
Bury came very close to taking that all important first goal on the 20 minute mark when Nicky Adams crossed the ball into the six yard box looking for Efe Sodje. The on loan defender managed to head the ball at goal, but Morecambe defender Jim Bentley managed to get a touch to force the ball just over the crossbar for a corner. From the resulting corner, Glynn Hurst fired a good shot from the edge of the six yard box which had keeper Shawn Jalal beaten. However, luckily for Morecambe David Artell was stood on the line to clear the ball away from danger.
Just a few minutes later and The Shakers had another golden opportunity when Elliott Bennett played a superb ball into the six yard box for a completely unmarked Glynn Hurst, who was able to head the ball towards goal. However, the ball went just inches wide of the left hand post. It was the best chance from some early pressure from Bury, who were unlucky not to be two goals up before the half hour mark.
Bury were in complete control of the game, and nearly took the lead on 38 minutes when Elliott Bennett fired a good shot from the edge of the six yard box which forced a good reaction save from Shawn Jalal in the Morecambe goal. Morecambe had their first shot of the game just two minutes before halftime when Jim Bentley fired a good shot from the edge of a crowded six yard box, which forced a good save from Darren Randolph.
The Shakers took the lead as the first half entered injury time when David Buchanan fired a good ball into the six yard box for Andy Bishop, who had no difficulty forcing the ball over the line to give Bury the halftime lead.
