The Shakers had a good chance early on after just 5 minutes when Nicky Adams played a good ball into the six yard box looking for Andy Bishop, but the Rotherham defence was well organized and was able to get the ball away from danger. On 8 minutes Bury were beginning to pile pressure on the Rotherham defence, and had their first shot on goal when David Buchanan played a superb ball to the edge of the six yard box for Andy Bishop who was able to shake his marker and fire a powerful close range effort at goal, which forced a superb reaction save from ex-Bury player Andy Warrington.

On 15 minutes Bury took the lead when David Buchanan played a high ball into the penalty area for a tightly marked Glynn Hurst, who was able to shake off his marker to play the ball back top an oncoming Andy Bishop who fired a powerful shot straight past Andy Warrington into the right hand corner of the goal to give Bury the lead.

The away side almost had an instant response when Pablo Mills went for goal from way outside the penalty area, which went just wide of Darren Randolph's right hand post. On 19 minutes Bury were back on the attack when Andy Bishop played a high ball into the penalty area looking for an oncoming Glynn Hurst, who was able to shake his marker and control the ball. However, Hurst's close range effort had Andy Warrington beaten but it went just wide of the left hand post.

On the half hour mark the away side had their best chance so far when Chris O'Grady fired a good header at goal, which forced a superb save from Darren Randolph diving towards his left hand post. Rotherham had a good chance on 39 minutes when Andy Warrington played a long ball to the edge of the Bury penalty area looking for Chris O'Grady, but Efe Sodje stood his ground well and managed to force the ball away from the Rotherham striker.

The Shakers came close to doubling their lead when David Buchanan played another superb ball into the six yard box looking for Andy Bishop, who was able to out jump his marker and fire a good header at goal, which forced a spectacular diving save from Andy Warrington.

Halftime: Bury 1-0 Rotherham

On 52 minutes Bury were back on the attack when Andy Bishop went for goal from outside the penalty area, which forced a save from Andy Warrington. The away side had a chance of their own on 55 minutes when Chris O'Grady went for goal from the edge of the six yard box, which forced a superb save from Darren Randolph. Just a few minutes later The Shakers were on the counter attack when Nicky Adams made a long surging run into the Rotherham half and played the ball to the edge of the penalty area for Elliott Bennett who forced his way into the penalty area, but Marc Joseph made a superb challenge to knock the ball away from the winger's feet.

The Shakers doubled their lead on 62 minutes when Andy Warrington's clearance was headed back towards the penalty area which set up Andy Bishop to go one-on-one with the keeper, and the on form striker had no difficulty knocking the ball underneath Warrington and into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

On 65 minutes Bury extended their lead even further when a corner from the left hand side was punched away by Andy Warrington, but the ball only went as far as Nicky Adams, who was able to control it and fire a superb shot at goal. Keeper Andy Warrington got a hand to the ball, but it had too much powerful as it flew into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

Just one minute later Bury were close to yet another goal when Elliott Bennett attempted to lob the ball over the head of the Rotherham keeper from close range, but Warrington was able to get a fingertip to it to force it away from danger. On 72 minutes Bury came close again when Glynn Hurst tried to force the ball over the line from the edge of the six yard box, but Andy Warrington put enough pressure on him to force the ball out of play.

On 86 minutes Andy Bishop nearly got his hat-trick when he fired a powerful shot from distance, which forced a good save from Andy Warrington. Andy Bishop had another chance on 88 minutes when he fired a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area which forced Warrington to make another good save.
